The CCRT is implementing Cultural Talent Search Scholarship Scheme to provide facilities to outstanding young children selected in the age of 10-14 years for developing their talent in various cultural fields such as traditional forms of music, dance, drama, painting sculpture and crafts laying special emphasis on rare art forms. The scholarship awarded under the scheme is for two years at a time which is renewable after two years till the completion of the first University Degree stage of education or upto the age of 20 years.

500 Scholarships are awarded every year and the value of scholarship is Rs. 3600/- per year and actual tuition fee paid for the specialized training is also reimbursed up to Rs. 3600/- per year. Children whose date of birth is in between 01.07.1995 and 30.06.1999 (both days inclusive) are eligible to apply for the award of scholarships for the year 2009. 3. All candidates are required to bring original marksheet of 10+2 or equivalent examination.

4. Candidates seeking admission against “Reserved” category (MP Domicile candidates only), are also required to bring “Caste and Domicile Certificate” issued by competent authority.

5. Candidates seeking admission in MBBS/BDS course are required to bring a . demand draft of Rs.2,50,000/- and Rs.1,25,000/- respectively in favour of APDMC, Bhopal as fees. The balance of fees as decided by AFRC for the year 2008-09 will be deposited in the college at the time of admission.

National Seminar on "Quality and Relevance of Higher Education" and 83rd Annual Meeting of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU)

The 83rd Annual Meeting of the Association of Indian Universities
will be held at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) from 16th to 19th of November 2008. The Annual Meeting is being hosted by NEHU under the auspices of the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi. The meeting includes four days of interaction and a national seminar on 'Quality and Relevance of Higher Education'.


NEHU was established up by an Act of Parliament in 1973 with the aim of disseminatinig knowledge by providing instructional and research facilities in the streams of learning and to emphasise on the promotion of social and economic conditions and welfare of the people of the hill areas of the Northeastern region.

The main campus of the University is located in the picturesque forested area of 1025 acres, which is covered with lush green pines trees. The University has another campus located at Tura in Meghalaya. Starting with just six departments, the University by the end of the X Plan had 31 post graduate departments and 5 Centres of Studies. NEHU also offers undergraduate programmes in Information Technology and Electronics & Communication Engineering and a 5-year integrated course in Law. There are 8 departments supported by SAP, 3 by COSIST and 6 departments have received special funds from DST under FIST. Further, the Department of Botany is the only Centre for Advanced Studies in the region. At present, the University has faculty strength of around 350 and about 3000 students are enrolled in various courses offered.

In acknowledgement of the achievements of the University, the UGC has recognised NEHU as a 'University with Potential for Excellence'. One of its permanently affiliated colleges (St. Anthony's College, Shillong) has been conferred the status of a 'College with Potential for Excellence'. There are 61 colleges affiliated to NEHU including minority educational institutions in Surat and Guwahati.

The University has made steady progress in research, consultancy and extension services. Currently it has research collaborations with more than 20 institutions of repute in the country and 7 abroad. The NEHU Data & Voice Network (NDVN) in the campus provides faculty and students access to internet as well as to UGC-Infonet and Inflibnet. Among the other facilities available are an international students' hostel and a multi-use convention hall. A University Academic Staff College has also been established recently.

The University hosts two Rajiv Gandhi chairs, one in the areas of 'Tribal Development' sponsored by the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, and the other on 'Protective Discrimination' sponsored by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. It has also received a special grant from the UGC towards establishing the North-East India Centre of Diversities. The Centre will showcase the rich diversities of the region through a Cultural Park and a Bio-Park. The University has also been identified for PIHEAD (Promotion of Indian Higher Education Abroad), Study India Programme and as the EDUSAT hub for Northeast.

In order to foster greater interaction and develop a vibrant academic life on the campus, the University has accommodated the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR-NERC), Sports Authority of India (SAI) and English and Foreign Languages University on its main campus.
