RNAi Technology

Department of Biotechnology
Ministry of Science and Technology

Small non-coding RNAs, including siRNA, miRNA and piRNAs play essential regulatory roles in a variety of phenomena including epigenetic regulation, genome control and stability, development, metabolic engineering, innate immunity and adaptive responses to biotic and abiotic stresses. These small RNAs are the backbones of RNAi activities and have revolutionized the biology of gene regulation. DBT invites the concept notes, intending to address various issues related to health, agriculture and environment using RNAi science/technology approaches.

RNAi Biology

Identification of genome wide RNAi factors in various organisms to manipulate the RNAi potential

Identification of total cellular factors responsible for disease susceptibility or resistance using genome wide RNAi

Unraveling the underlying molecular process for various diseases /metabolic /physiological processes in animal or plant model using RNAi approach

Profiling and prediction of miRNAs responsible for organism development and stress

pi RNA biogenesis and function

Development of tools for research, early translation/ product development

Search for miRNA biomarkers for known diseases

Developing genome wide shRNA libraries

Chemical synthesis of stable small RNAs and their target specific delivery

Translational research related to use of RNAi based approaches

Developing transgenics with economic traits using RNAi approach

The concept should run not in more than two pages* and must include (a) significance, (b) novelty, specific objectives and brief work plan (c) expected outcomes/deliverables, (d) tentative budget and, (e) biodata on one separate page* to highlight the expertise and experiences in the subject area/s. All segments i.e. Academia, NGOs etc. individually or in collaboration are encouraged to submit the concept note. The concept notes, duly signed by head of the institute, should be sent to Dr D K Tiwary, Principal Scientific Officer, Department of Biotechnology, Block-2, CGO Complex, Lodi Road, New Delhi- 110004. by 15th January 2011. The concept notes will be screened in the last week of January, 2011 for developing into full projects.
