New and Innovative courses in Panjab University

In this era of globalization of knowledge, universities need to review and re-engineer their conceptual directions and the practice to promote empowerment through education. Education is essentially about nurturing innovating and creative energies. Keeping in view the emerging needs of the society in the area of Science & Technology, Social Sciences, Educational Technology, Professional Courses, etc, the Panjab University has introduced as many as fifty-eight new courses. Details of some of the new and innovative courses are given below:

University Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism

University Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism in its humble way is venturing to groom students as professionals to meet the ever increasing demand of the hospitality industry. With globalization, career opportunities in this domain in ever increasing. The Institute aims to create skills and knowledge to make its graduates to serve in hotels, restaurants, guest houses, hospitals, catering houses of airlines, railways, shipping companies, government tourism departments, tourism industry in private sector besides providing opportunities of self-employment. The courses being introduced are:

(i) B.Sc. in Hospitality and Hotel Administration -
60vseats

(ii) B.Sc. in Tourism Management - 30 seats

The eligibility for admission is 10+2 with minimum of 50% marks (45% for SC/ST). Admission will be on the merit of 10+2.

Institute of Forensic Science and Criminology


M.Sc.in Forensic Science and Criminology (20 seats) an exciting and multidisciplinary programme, involves the application of methods of science to legal matters.. The principles of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Anthropology, as well as social sciences and law are employed in solving crimes in order to serve justice. Forensic scientists find placements in Central and State Government Forensic Science Laboratories, Hospitals, Universities, other Governmental Organization such as Police Department, IB, CBI, etc., and may also offer their services as independent consultants. Eligibility for admission in B.Sc. in Science.

University Institute of Fashion Technology and Vocational Development


A five year integrated course in Fashion and Lifestyle Technology prepares professionals for Educational Industrial and Corporate Sector to work as:

Fashion Innovators; Fashion Marketers and Advertisers; Pattern Developers; Fashion Event Managers; Fashion Illustrators; Fashion Choreographers; Fashion Journalists and Editors; Fashion Stylists; Fashion Coordinators; Fashion Forecaster

Admission is open to 1st year of Bachelor in Fashion & Lifestyle (BFL-3 Years) No. of seats 40. The eligibility for admission is 10+2 with humanities subjects with minimum of 50% marks (45% for SC/ST).

Four year Integrated Course of B.A. Hons (Education) B.Ed. provides each student with opportunity to learn, guidance to help students discover their own potentialities and maintain their motivation for life long learning. There are 100 seats in this course. The eligibility for admission is 10+2 with humanities subjects with minimum of 50% marks (45% for SC/ST). Internship for two months has been incorporated on pattern of professional courses like medicine/engineering and B.EI.Ed of Delhi University. Emphasis is laid on activities related with life skills which will not only boost self confidence, communication skills and other affective traits but will provide a strong platform for other courses and to help promote a productivity towards such life learning outcomes to prepare a teacher will be knowledgeable, competent, professional, skilled and at the same time a good human being and a good citizen.

RRC-cum-Department of community Education & Development

Admission is open for two year M.A. Course (semester system) in Community Education & Development in the Department of Community Education & Development. Being an interdisciplinary course this aims at enabling the students to understand the issues pertaining to Community Development and its various perspectives at the global as well as at the national level. The course will further provide an opportunity to the students to work in collaboration with public, private, social and corporate sectors. Total number of seats are 25. Students with Graduation Degree in any discipline with 50% marks are eligible to apply for admission in the course.
