Admission Notice 2009 To B.A.(H) English - CATE

A Combined Aptitude Test For English (CATE), for admission to the B.A. (Honours) course in English offered by the University of Delhi, will be conducted on Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at 1.00 p.m. The test will be held, under the aegis of the Department of English, University of Delhi, on behalf of twelve colleges of the university. The colleges who will admit students to the English course through the test are:

• Delhi College of Arts and Commerce
• Hindu College
• Indraprastha College for Women
• Kamla Nehru College
• Maharaja Agrasen College
• Ram Lal Anand College – Evening
• Satyawati College – Evening
• Shivaji College
• Shyam Lal College
• Swami Shraddanand College
• Zakir Hussain College
• Zakir Hussain College-Evening

The test will be of one-and-a- half hours duration , and will evaluate candidates' aptitude for the B.A ,(Honours) English .course. It will comprise multiple-choice questions to assess vocabulary, grammar, language skills and literary knowledge of candidates as well as questions in comprehension and essay -writing.

a) The criteria of eligibility for appearing for the CATE will be (i) a minimum score of 60% in English. (Core or Functional or Elective) and (ii) 60% aggregate in the best 4 subjects of the Class XII examination.

b) Application forms for the CATE will be made available at the office of the Department of English, Arts Faculty Building, University of Delhi (North Campus). Each candidate for the test will be required to submit at the same office, along with the completed application form, two passport-size photographs, a copy of his/her Class XII mark-sheet and a sum of Rs.100/- as demamd draft in favour of The Registrar, University of Delhi, test fee. Registration for the test will be done at each of the venues set up for the distribution of forms.

c) Upon registration, each candidate will be given a counterfoil of the application form which will serve as his/her receipt-cum- test admit card as well as mention his/her roll number for the test and test venue.

d) A candidate needs to submit only one CATE application form to register for the test even though he/she may be applying to more than one college for B.A.(Honours) English.

e)
Relaxation of benchmarks for admission of candidates of CATE who belong to the OBC constituency, as identified by their relevant certificates, will be enforced as per university rules.

f) Students who belong to the various reserved categories, such as SC / ST / PH or foreign students, whose admission is done directly by the university, need not appear for the CATE.
