National Symposium on Frontiers in Photobiology (FIP-2009)

On the occasion of Bhabha Centenary Year BARC Organizes

National Symposium on Frontiers in Photobiology (FIP-2009)
August 24 - 26, 2009

Theme: Light plays a crucial role in sustaining the existence of living organisms on this earth. Indian Society of Photobiology, established in 1964 and affiliated to Association Internationale de photobiologie, holds conferences in photobiology in India every alternate year. Photobiology deals with studies on interaction of light with biological systems. Photosynthesis has been the most important field of research in photobiology and is currently undergoing renaissance, especially due to impending energy crisis. The mechanism of light harvesting by natural photoautotrophs is being explored with new zeal and fervor. Photobiology also includes studies on bioluminescence, photomorphogenesis, circadian rhythms, visual processing and effects of UV on biological systems etc. In addition, Photodynamic Effects, Photodynamic Therapy, Biophotonics and Single Molecule Spectroscopy are making great strides in photobiology.

The symposium is aimed at bringing together the scientists from the biological, chemical, physical and medical sciences to foster interdisciplinary research in the frontier areas of photobiology in India. Young researchers will get introduced to leading edge technologies in photobiology and will be able to interact with renowned scientists in this field.

The symposium will cover following areas :

Photosynthesis: Light and Dark reactions
Molecular Biology of Photosynthesis
Bioluminescence, Photomorphogenesis, Visual processing, Circadian rhythms
Photophysics and Photochemistry related to Biomolecules, Biosensors and Ionophores
Artificial Photosynthesis and Bio-inspired Chemistry
Environmental Photobiology and Photorepair
Photodynamic Effects and Photodynamic therapy in Cancer
Biophotonics and Single Molecule Spectroscopy
Nanoparticles and Quantum Dots in Photobiology
