Applications are invited for admission to Ph.D. programme in the Department of Zoology for the year 2013 from eligible candidates who would be placed under the Faculty of Zoology, CU and affiliated research supervisors for the pursuance of their Ph.D. degree.

Candidates are requested to download the Ph.D. admission test application form from the University website. The filled in form is to submitted to the Head of the Department (Zoology), 35, B. C. Road, Kolkata – 700 019 C.U. within 2nd February, 2013.

Date of Admission test : February 18, 2013 (Monday)

Date of Interview : February 25, 2013

Number of Vacancies for Ph.D. programme : 30

Candidates with valid NET/GATE/M.Phil. or Equivalent Qualifications are not required to appear at the admission test but would need to qualify the interview. Reservation will be followed as per rule.

Interviews for candidates who have applied for Ph.D. course in Library and Information Science as per Circular no. P/ admission/5473 & 18/12/2012 will be held on 30th January 2013 at 02.30 p.m. onwards. Candidates may please note that if any candidate is absent in the schedule time slot, she/he will be treated as absent. It will not be possible to conduct such interviews later. All the candidate are requested to bring all their original certificates for verification of eligibility. A candidate from reserve category should bring cast certificate or non-creamy layer certificate or whichever is applicable. The interview will be based on the following criteria.

A= Understanding of subject
B= Clarity of research work
C= Communication skill, writing skill, logic & reasoning
D= Knowledge of recent advances in the subject

CSIR Young Scientist Awards for 2013

The Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) invites nominations for the CSIR Young Scientist (YS) Awards for the year 2013. The awards are to be given for research contributions made primarily in India. The nominee should be a regular scientific staff of CSIR system holding a post of Junior/Trainee Scientist or above (Previously Scientist ‘B’ or above in Group IV) and should have joined the CSIR laboratory on or prior to 26th September 2012. The age of the nominee should not be more than 35 years as on 26th September 2012.

The YS Awards are given annually in the following disciplines: (1) Biological Sciences, (2) Chemical Sciences, (3) Earth, Atmosphere, Ocean and Planetary Sciences, (4) Engineering Sciences, and (5) Physical Sciences (including instrumentation). The YS Award comprises a citation, a cash award of Rs 50,000 (Rupees fifty thousand only), and a plaque.

Nominations addressed to Scientist Incharge, SSB YSA Unit, Human Resource Development (HRD) Group, CSIR Complex, Library Avenue, Pusa, New Delhi 110 012 should be sent as per the prescribed proforma (original + nine copies) latest by 31st January 2013. Digital photograph (preferably in JPEG), softcopy of duly filled proforma (preferably in MS-WORD) and softcopy of significant publications (preferably in PDF) of the nominee on a single CD/DVD are also required.
