NASA Space Settlement Contest 2013

NASA Space Settlement Contest

This annual contest, co-sponsored by NASA Ames and the National Space Society (NSS) is for all students up to 12th grade (18 years old) from anywhere in the world. Individuals, small teams of two to six, and large teams of seven or more are judged separately. Entries are also grouped by age/grade of the oldest contestant for judging. The age groups are 7th and under, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th. The grand prize is awarded to the best entry regarless of contestant age. Students develop space settlement designs and related materials. These are sent to NASA Ames for judgement. Submissions must be received by March 15. Check out the results of the 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 2011 and 2012 contests by visiting official website.

Teachers are encouraged to use this contest as part of their curriculum. See the space settlement teacher's page and the Space Settlement page.

Contest prizes and certificates:

All participants will receive a certificate. All submissions must be received by March 15, 2013.

The best submission, regardless of category, wins the grand prize, consisting of the space colony submission being placed on the NASA Ames World Wide Web site.

All 2013 contest participants are invited to attend the NSS 32nd annual International Space Development Conference in San Diego, CA May 23-27, 2013. Every year, hundreds of contestants attend, along with their parents, teachers, siblings and friends. Special activities for contestants are planned, including:

The single highest scoring team or individual attending will receive the NSS Bruce M. Clark, Jr. Memorial Space Settlement Award for $5,000. If a team wins, the sum will be evenly divided amongst them.

The highest ranking winners attending will be invited to give oral presentations as time is available.

To the extent space is available, all contestants who attend will be invited to display a poster of their work.

Special sessions are arranged for contestants, teachers, parents, etc.
These activities are not yet finalized and may change. Nonetheless, this is a tremendous opportunity to present your work, meet some of the most important people in space development as well as your fellow contestants, and have a great time.

Last date of Registration for CMAT 2013-14 (Second Test) has been extended till 9th Jan 2013.


How many sections are there in the test?

There will be four sections in the test. The sections are (a) Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation b) Logical Reasoning c) Language Comprehension and d) General Awareness

How many questions are there in each of these sections?

There will be 25 questions in each section.

Can I move back and forth between the four section?


What is the duration of the test?

The duration of test will be 180 minutes

Will there be negative marking in CMAT exam?


What is the scoring pattern and rule for negative marking?

For each correct answer there are 4 marks, for each wrong answer 1 mark shall be deducted.

The department of Slavonic & Finno-Ugrian Studies at the University of Delhi is happy to announce the International Conference titled ‘REVISITING EAST CENTRAL EUROPE AND RUSSIA: SOCIETY AND CULTURE ‘20 YEARS’ AFTER’ scheduled to be held on the 6th – 7th of March 2013.

The Department of Slavonic & Finno-Ugrian studies is one of the leading institutions in India where, besides Russian, the languages and literatures of East Central Europe are taught. Presently the department is engaged in teaching of languages such as Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Polish and Hungarian.

We all are aware that the region of East Central Europe and Russia had experienced significant systemic changes some two decades ago. Perhaps its time to look back and take stock of varying experiences across societies and cultures of this geopolitical space.

This International Conference envisages bringing together experts and specialists from various fields such as philology, linguistics, literature, arts, culture and social sciences etc. in order to share the proposed platform for a meaningful exchange and interaction.
