Indira Gandhi National Open University

Convocation 2011

Indira Gandhi National Open University’s 22nd convocation is announced to be held at April 2, 2011 at the headquarters in the capital for awarding the gold medals, degrees and diplomas to the eligible candidates, which simultaneously will be telecasted from the designated regional centres across the country through teleconferencing.

The last date of registration for the Convocation ceremony has been extended from February 10, to February 28, 2011. The web link for the registration will be available at the university’s website .

It is mandatory for students to carry their identity card. Degree will be issued only to the candidates, but to no one else including their authorised representative.

Students can exercise the option to either receive their degree/diploma certificates either in person at the convocation or by post in absentia and in either case a non-refundable sum of Rs.350 per degree certificate towards registration fees is to be paid along with the consent letter by the way of a demand draft in favour of IGNOU payable at New Delhi.

Annual Sahara Scholarship 2011

All NCC cadets (Boys and Girls) are informed that forms are available for Annual Sahara Scholarship 2011 (Rs.30,000/-) at 3 PB BN, Ludhiana.

Eligibility criteria for scholarship is as follows:-

1. 80% attendance (i.e. having valid cadet no.)

2. Above 65% marks in 12th Standard

About Annual Sahara Scholarship

An annual Sahara scholarship scheme of Rs. 1 Crore to be given out as scholarships per annum to NCC cadets, has been instituted by the Sahara Group.

JD and JW Rs.6,000/- each
SD and SW Rs. 12,000/- each
Professional Rs. 30,000/-

A) Junior Division / Wing : Scholarship for cadets passing Class X examination and fulfilling the laid down eligibility criteria. Two scholarhip of Rs 6000/- each for one year will be awarded to JD and JW cadets per NCC Group. Total number of scholarhips will be 368.

The eligibility conditions for award of scholarships are as under: -

(a) Minimum 65% marks in Class VIII, IX and X.

(b) 5% bonus marks given to SC/ST/OBC candidates.

(c) One year in NCC in 8th, 9th or l0m class.

(d) Should have 80% attendance in NCC.

B) Senior Division / Wing :
Scholarships for cadets passing 10 + 2 or equivalent examination admitted in regular graduation courses recognized by the UGC viz BA B Sc, B Com, BCA, BBA and fulfilling laid down eligibility criteria. Two scholarships of Rs 12,000/- each for one year will be awarded to SD and SW cadets per NCC Group. Total number of scholarships will be 368.

The eligibility conditions for award of scholarships are as under: -

(a) Should have passed class XII in preceding two years.

(b) Completed at least one year of NCC in SD/SW.

(c) 5% bonus marks to be given to SC/ST/OBC candidates.

(d) Should have 80% attendance in NCC.

(e) Should have obtained minimum following marks :-

(i) Science - 65%

(ii)Commerce - 60%

(iii) Arts - 55%

C) Higher Studies : Scholarships for cadets passing 10 + 2 or equivalent examination admitted in professional courses recognized by the Government and UGC viz Engineering, Medical, Business Administration, Hotel Management etc and fulfilling the laid down eligibility criteria. Sixty six scholarships of Rs 30,000/- each will be awarded for one year common for Boys and Girls. Distribution of these scholarships between various States and Union Territories will be based on the number of NCC Groups per State/ UT.

The eligibility conditions for award of scholarships are as under: -

(a) Should have passed class XII in preceding two years.

(b) Marks of class XII to form the basis of merit.

(c) Should have done 2 years of NCC.

(d) Should have 80% attendance in NCC.

(e) Admitted to any of the following professional course recognized by

Govt/UGC :-

(i) Engineering

(ii) Medical

(iii) Hotel Management

(iv) Business Administration

(v) Fashion Designing

(vi) Journalism

(vii) Mass Media

Participation in this Competition is open to individuals who are full-time students between the ages 13 – 18 and enrolled in a private or public school. Dr. K.S. Krishnan Research Associateship (KSKRA) – 23rd Batch

For a challenging career in pursuit of front ranking R & D programmes in Atomic Energy

Research Associates selected under the prestigious KSKRA programme are given an opportunity to work on R&D programmes of national importance relevant to the DAE mandate in one of the following advanced research centres of the Department:

1. Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai.

2. Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam.

3.Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RRCAT), Indore.

4. Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre (VECC), Kolkata.

5. Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), Mumbai.

Up to 20 KSKRAs can be selected every year and paid a stipend of Rs.26,000/- + benefits for a maximum period of 2 years. Anytime during the 2nd year of associateship, subject to satisfactory performance, the KSKRAs will be absorbed in one of the above given R&D units of DAE and appointed in the grade of Scientific Officer/ Engineer-D/ E. The associateships are available in the following broad disciplines:


A) Minimum Educational Qualification and Experience:

i) For Engineers: Ph.D. degree in Engineering (Those who have submitted thesis for Ph.D. may also apply) or Master's degree in Engineering (M.Tech./ M.E./M.S.) with a minimum of 2-year R&D experience after obtaining M.Tech./M.E./M.S. degree.
ii) For Scientists: Ph.D. degree in Science (Those who have submitted Ph.D. thesis may also apply).
All candidates must have a First Class at either Masters or Bachelors level.
All candidates must provide a list of publications in support of their R&D experience.

B) Nationality/Age: Indian nationals who are not more than 32 years as on 1st January in the year of the application. The age criterion is relaxable by 5 years for SC/ ST candidates and 3 years for OBC candidates. The SC/ ST/ OBC certificate should be as per the prescribed format. Physically challenge persons are eligible for age relaxation of 5 years.
