The University admits a limited number of candidates directly to Ph.D. programme either on the basis of viva-voce or written examination and viva-voce both as may be decided by the University both in Monsoon and Winter Semesters in all Schools/Centres (except Life Sciences). In addition direct admission to Ph.D. is also offered in Group of Political Theory and Comparative Politics (International Relations), Adult Education, Women's Studies and Study of Discrimination and Exclusion. Candidates are required to check the availability of seats in each Centre/School before applying for admission in Winter Semester. Candidates are advised to refer to the admission announcement being notified separately.


The University admits a limited number of candidates to M.Phil./Ph.D. and Pre-Ph.D./Ph.D. programmes either on the basis of viva-voce or written examination and viva-voce both as may be decided by the University who have qualified a National Test entitling them to a JRF in Schools of Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Computer & Systems Sciences, Information Technology and Biotechnology.

Eligibility: Only those candidates who fulfil the minimum eligibility requirements as prescribed for admission of candidates to M.Phil./Ph.D. and Pre-Ph.D. programmes through Entrance Examination under category A above in above Science Schools/Centres and have qualified a National Test entitling them to a JRF are eligible to apply.


University will hold Entrance Examination (in Delhi Centre only) for admission to Certificate of Proficiency and Advanced Diploma in Mass Media in Urdu one-year Part-Time Programmes of Study in the School of Language, Literature & Culture Studies. Since these are Part-Time programmes, these are intended for candidates residing in Delhi NCR only. Admission to Diploma of Proficiency and Advanced Diploma of Proficiency will be made on basis of the past academic record of the candidate which will be assessed in accordance with the criteria laid down by the University for selection.

PROGRAMMES OF STUDY : 1) Advanced Diploma in Mass Media in Urdu, 2) Advanced Diploma of Proficiency in Pushto, 3) Diploma of Proficiency in Pushto and Bahasa Indonesia, 4) Certificate of Proficiency in Italian, Mongolian, Pustho, Bahasa Indonesia and Urdu.

Eligibility: 1. Advanced Diploma in Mass Media in Urdu : A Bachelor's Degree under 10 + 2 + 3 pattern of education with at least 45% marks in aggregate with Urdu as one of the subjects at High School or Intermediate or B.A. Level. 2. Advanced Diploma of Proficiency: Senior School Certificate, (10+2) or equivalent with at least 45% marks in aggregate and Diploma of Proficiency in language concerned. 3. Diploma of Proficiency : Senior School Certificate (10+2) or equivalent with at least 45% marks in aggregate and Certificate of Proficiency in the language concerned. 4. Certificate of Proficiency: Senior School Certificate (10+2) or equivalent with at least 45% marks in aggregate.

(Category-A) Admission through Entrance Examination

IV. School of Life Sciences

(A) M.Phil./Ph.D. in areas of interdisciplinary research in molecular Biology, genetic engineering, plant biotechnology, genetics, developmental biology, cell biology, immunology, neurobiology, microbiology, radiation and cancer biology, bio-physics and structural biology.

(B) M.Sc. in Life Sciences : An integrated interdisciplinary programme in Modern Biology.

V. School of Environmental Sciences

(A) M.Phil./Ph.D. in environmental sciences including interdisciplinary areas of biology(Ecology, biotechnology, biophysics, bioremediation), chemistry (Air, Water, Soil pollution), geology and physics.

(B) M.Sc. in environmental sciences : an interdisciplinary course with environmental orientation, drawn from relevant areas of biological, chemical, earth and physical sciences.

(A) M.Phil./Ph.D.: The School offers M.Phil./Ph.D. programme in three different streams - Visual Studies, Theatre and Performance Studies and Cinema Studies. (Admission to the M.Phil./Ph.D. is through a separate entrance examination for each discipline followed by a viva-voce.)

Sets of Application Form and Prospectus can be obtained either (i) through post by sending crossed Bank Draft (valid for six months) for Rs. 300/- drawn in favour of Jawaharlal Nehru University payable at New Delhi alongwith a self-addressed (unstamped) envelope of the minimum size of 30 cms X 25 cms. clearly indicating the Category for which the Application Form is required on the self-addressed envelope to the Section Officer (Admissions), Room No. 28, Administrative Block, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi-110067. Candidates seeking Application Form and Prospectus from Nepal are required to send a bank draft of Indian Rs.400/- or equivalent in US Dollars. Money Orders and Cheques are not accepted. Please do not send your request through private courier services; or (ii) in person from the Counter in the Administrative Block of the Univeristy on cash payment of Rs. 200/- per set from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and from 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. on all working days (Monday to Friday). BPL card holders will be issued a set of application form & prospectus free of cost on submissiion of a copy of the BPL card issued by the competent authority showing their name in the card

The Sale of Examination Application Forms for Chartered Accountants Professional Education – II, Professional Competence Course (PCE), Integrated Professional Competence Course (IPCE) and Final Examinations and also for the Management Accountancy Course (MAC Part – I ),Corporate Management Course (CMC Part – I), Tax Management Course (TMC Part – I), Insurance and Risk Management Course (IRM) and international Trade Laws and World Trade Organization (ITL&WTO) Examinations to be held in May, 2010 scheduled to be made available for Sale at Regional Offices and Branches of the Institute from 5th February, 2010 could not be done due to unavoidable circumstances and will now be available from 8th February, 2010 against the payment of Rs.100/- per application form for both Students Examination Form as well as for Members Examination Form.

Inconvenience caused in the matter is regretted.

Common Proficiency Test (CPT) on June 20th, 2010

In pursuance of Regulation 22 of the Chartered Accountants Regulations, 1988, the Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India is pleased to notify that the Common Proficiency Test ( Paper- Pencil Mode) will be held on Sunday, the 20th JUNE 2010 in two sessions as below, at the following centres provided that sufficient number of candidates offer themselves to appear from each centre.

Applications for admission to Common Proficiency Test is required to be made in the relevant prescribed form as contained in the Information Brochure, which may be obtained from the Additional Secretary (Examinations), The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, ICAI Bhawan, Indraprastha Marg, New Delhi – 110 002 on payment of Rs. 600/-(Rs.500/- towards examination fee and Rs. 100/- towards cost of application form and Information brochure) per application form. The fee for candidates opting for Abu Dhabi , Dubai, Doha and Bahrain centres will be US $160 ( US $ 150 towards examination fee and US $ 10 towards cost of application form and information brochure) or its equivalent Indian Currency. The fee for the candidates opting for Kathmandu centre are required to remit INR.950/-( INR 850/- towards examination fee and INR 100/- towards the cost of application form and information brochure) or its equivalent foreign Currency. Since the cost of Information brochure containing Common Proficiency Test application form includes the examination fee , no separate fee is required to be remitted at the time of submitting the filled in application form. The Information brochure containing Common Proficiency Test application form will also be available in the Regional and Branch Offices of the Institute and can be obtained there from on cash payment on or from 6th April,2010.

Common Proficiency Test application forms duly filled in may be sent so as to reach the Additional Secretary (Examinations) at New Delhi not later than 27th April,2010 . Applications received after 27th April,2010 shall not be entertained under any circumstances. Applications duly filled in will be received by hand delivery at the offices of Institute at New Delhi and at the Decentralised Offices of the Institute at Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Kanpur, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Jaipur and Pune upto 27th April,2010. Candidates residing in these cities are advised to take advantage of this facility. It may be noted that there is no provision for acceptance of application forms after 27th April,2010 with late fee.

Alternatively the candidate may fill up the examination application form online at from 6th April,2010 ( 10:00 hrs) to 27th April,2010 ( 17:30hrs) and remit the fee online by using credit card, either VISA or Master Card.
