Diploma in Vocational Rehabilitation (Mental Retardation)

This is a new course started by GIMRC from the academic year 2003-04 where in 55% of the inputs are towards 4 practical’s and 45% inputs are towards 6 theory papers. The one academic year course is designed to develop the following competencies in the trainees.

· Identify and assess the readiness of mentally retarded persons to be vocationally trained and employed.

· Develop appropriate work behavior in the mentally retarded persons.

· Manage behavior problems.

· Develop work skills and to assess them.

· Be conversant with task analysis and job simplification.

· Set up appropriate work situations.

· Manage an employment facility for the mentally retarded persons.

· Counsel the mentally retarded persons, care givers and society.

· Assist and set up vocational training and employment facilities for the mentally retarded persons.


• The candidate should have passed or appeared for 10 + 2 examination from a recognized board/university

• Preference will be give to candidates with engineering subject in the vocational stream or with science in the academic stream.

• Candidates with a basic qualification in mental retardation (DSE) (MR)/BMR/B.Ed-Spl. Edn.) will also qualify for admission.


Applications for admission will be screened by a committee specially constituted for this purpose. Merit list based on the academic qualification as per rules will be prepared. Final merit list will be prepared based on the scores obtained by the candidates on the basis of academic qualification, experience and performance in the interview. No TA/DA will be paid by the Institute for attending the interview.

• The decision of the Admission Committee is final regarding the admission.

• No TA/DA will be provided for the candidates to attend the interview.
