The PGSS Programme (PGSSP) provides an opportunity for professionals in the Hyderabad area to benefit from the advanced courses offered at the institute. The post-graduate status can be accorded to a professional on the basis of his or her academic and experience record. Once someone is awarded the PG status, he or she can take a maximum of two courses at the institute every semester. This provides him or her with the opportunity to acquire new knowledge in chosen areas without committing to a formal programme. The courses taken under the PGSSP scheme can count towards a formal degree from the institute, should the student join one of the full-time or part-time programmes subsequently.


Admission to the PGSSP is based on the academic and professional record of the applicants. Sample qualifications include: a Bachelors or Master's degree in Engineering, MCA, or a Masters degree in Science/Mathematics. Professionals with 1 or more years of experience in software design and development may also apply.

Admission Procedure

Dr Manmohan Singh, the Prime Minister of India, is a graduate and Honorary Fellow of St John’s College. He is widely acknowledged as the architect of the economic reforms that have helped propel India onto the World Stage. In honour of Dr Singh St John’s College, the University of Cambridge launched the Dr Manmohan Singh Scholarships in Delhi in 2007. These awards will enable academically outstanding Indian students to come to St. John’s College, University of Cambridge to study for doctoral degrees in subjects like Science & Technology, Economics and Social Sciences.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility: A candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree of minimum three years’ duration (or its equivalent) in any discipline from a recognized University. Candidates who expect to complete the final part of their degree examinations by June 21, 2010 may also apply. Migration research has gained prominence in today’s globalised world given its relevance for the economy and society at large. Interest in migration studies has widened beyond the discipline of demography due to its manifold implications. This Training programme is designed and offered by Research Unit on International Migration set up at CDS by the Ministry of Indian Overseas Affairs, Government of India as part of its mission to train young scholars engaged in research on migration.


This programme intends to acquaint researchers with emerging issues and consequences of internal and international migration and familiarise them with the research tools of conducting surveys on migration as well as of assessing the magnitudes, characteristics, flows and implications of migration based on types and sources of data. CDS has been offering this programme since 2006; applications are being invited for the fourth edition of the programme. The duration of the course is March 15-20, 2010.


Researchers and Ph.D Scholars of Social Sciences working on migration and migration related issues are encouraged to apply. (Six- Month Certificate Course in Geriatric Care)

Application in prescribed form from interested candidates is invited for admission in Six-Months Certificate Course in Geriatric Care (Full-time) at New Delhi, Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, Agartala, Bangalore, Kunnamkulam/Cochin, Coimbatore, under Project, National Initiative on Care for Elderly (NICE) of National Institute of Social Defence, an Autonomous Body under Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, during November, 2009 to June, 2010. The Course aims to develop a cadre of skilled caregivers and Supervisory level personnel to meet the demand for providing skill based, field oriented, trained personnel in Age Care in NGO Sector (National as well as International), Government/Corporate Sectors, Academic Institutions, etc. The course covers subjects like Social Gerontology, Basic Geriatrics, Applied Geriatrics and Geriatric Nursing.


i. High School/Matriculation or any other Examination equivalent to Secondary Examination after a period of 10 years study; Preference will be given to candidates working as Old Age Care Givers, Health Workers, Counsellors, Social Workers, Home Care Workers, Nursing Assistant or in Age Care Agencies/Organisations.

ii. Age Limit: He/she should have completed the age of 18 years as on October 1, 2009 and should not be more than 45 years as on October 1, 2009.

Selection will be made through a Common Aptitude Test (CAT) to be held at New Delhi, Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, Agartala, Bangalore, Cochin and Coimbatore on Sunday, January 10, 2010 followed by Group Discussion and Interview. Finnish Government’s Scholarships for Indian Nationals to Finland in the academic year 2010-2011

To be eligible, the applicant must : -

• Intend to pursue postgraduate studies as a visiting student, participate in a research project or teach at a higher education institution or public research in Finland; priority will be given to doctoral studies.

• Have established contact with the Finnish receiving institution before applying

• Have a letter of invitation from the academic supervisor in Finland, the invitation should also include a timetable.

• Have earned at least a Master-level degree before applying.

• Not have spent more than one year already at a Finnish higher education institution immediately before the intended scholarship period in Finland.

• Be able to give proof of sufficient skills in speaking and writing the language needed in study/research.

• Be a national of one of the eligible countries listed above.

The duration of scholarship is 3 months to 9 months. The academic year in Finland lasts from September to May. The autumn terms begins in September and end by 20 December. The spring term starts in January and ends in May.

The UGC-NET Coaching Centre at Maulana Azad National Urdu University will arrange for coaching for the NET exam scheduled to be held on 27th December 2009. During the month of November 2009 the University will conduct intensive coaching classes in the compulsory subject (General Studies and Teaching Aptitude – Paper I) and in subjects (comprising Papers II and III) in the following subjects: English, Urdu, Hindi, Arabic, Persian, Public Administration, Education, History, Political Science, Sociology, Management and Mass Communication. Classes will be conducted in case there are at least 10 students enrolled in a subject. The coaching will be in the English Medium, except for the Urdu subject.

Candidates desirous of enrolling for the coaching classes may obtain application forms free of charge from 6th November 2009 from Room No. 105 Directorate of Distance Education, Maulana Azad National Urdu University and the last date for submission is 18th November 2009. An entrance test for enrolment to coaching will be conducted on 19th November 2009 at the University campus at 11a.m. and result declared on 20th November 2009. Online submission of application may be made by accessing the Board’s website from 20-10-2009 (10.00 A.M.) to 27-11-2009 (5.00 P.M.). Instructions for sending online application, payment of fee and computer generated printout are available on the Board’s website. Fee of Rs.800/- for General/OBC Category Candidates and Rs.450/- for SC/ST Category Candidates may be remitted in the following ways:

1. By Credit card, or
2. Through Demand Draft in favour of the Secretary, Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi drawn on any Nationalized Bank payable at Delhi.
