Bit Student Win National Championship of Anveshan 2009

Ravi Tiwari & Minakshi Kumari; Master of Engineering students in Quality Engineering & Management BIT Mesra, won the First Prize in Management & Social Sciences Category at the ‘ANVESHAN‘, THE All India Annual Students Research Convention organized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) held at Bengal Engineering & Science University Howrah from 23 to 25th Feb ’09.

They received a cash prize of Rs. 1 Lakh in addition to International scholarships for France & Netherlands worth 2200 Euros per month for doctoral research. Ravi Tiwari & Minakshi Kumari were also declared as the OVERALL NATIONAL CHAMPION for the Research Convention among all the categories and were awarded the very prestigious Dr. S K Mukherjee Gold Medal for Research Excellence.

They have developed an Analytical Quality Assessment Tool for Television News Media that can be implemented for assuring the quality of news broadcasting. The Tool employs Value Engineering Concept for its functioning. As a current matter of debate, this tool may be a relief to the prevailing vacillations regarding ‘Self-regulation’ by the news channels & also to the I&B Ministry of India.

Another team from BIT consisting of BE students Nirmalya Sanyal, Pawan Kumar Gupta bagged the third prize in Engineering Tech. Category for their project on 'Intelligent Traffic Control System Through Lasers And GPS’. The project uses a Class-1 laser and regulates the switching over of traffic lights. This technology also works to gather data for traffic congestion. They received a cash prize of Rs.50000 & scholarships for higher studies.

The awards were presented by Dr. D.Dongaonkar, Present Secretary General, Association of Indian Universities New Delhi, Foreign Delegates from France and Netherlands were present during the Convention
