CHASCON – 2009

(CHASCON – 2009 )
3rd Chandigarh Science Congress

26th to 28th February 2009

“Science Education and Attraction of Talent for Excellence in Research”

Introduction Scientists working in different institutes of Chandigarh and its proximity have been producing high quality work, rated superlatively on national and international fronts. However, this “par excellence” work has largely been carried out in the “isolated ivory towers”. Hence there is significant room for further improvement and growth by partnership. Moreover, whereas science and technology and innovation have entered the center stage in knowledge economies of the world, the enrollment of youth into study and career in science is generally in decline. India has mounted a scheme under the title ‘Innovation for Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE)’. Such initiatives attempt to address the felt needs of a Nation on the move.

Since long, an acute need has been felt for a common platform wherein the scientists from the city could interact, integrate and collaborate in a symbiotic and symphonic manner. Exchange of innovative ideas, pragmatic methodologies and specific knowledge was contemplated not only to accelerate the pace of scientific progress in the region, but to reduce the time, effort and cost incurred as well. Following this, the 1st and 2nd Chandigarh Science Congresses were successfully organized at Panjab University in the years 2007 and 2008, respectively. Several key institutes in the city and its vicinity joined hands together to disseminate, discuss and evaluate the scientific know-how in their respective specific domains during the Congress and this has turned the dream of Chandigarh Science Congress into reality.
