DIRECT ADMISSION TO PH.D. PROGRAMME 2009-10

The University admits a limited number of candidates directly to Ph.D. programme on the basis of their performance in the viva voce examination (without Entrance Examination) both in Monsoon and Winter Semesters in various areas of research in the

(1) School of International Studies
(2) School of Social Sciences
(3) School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies
(4) School of Computer & Systems Sciences
(5) School of Physical Sciences
(6) School of Environmental Sciences
(7) School of Arts and Aesthetics
(8) School of Information Technology
(9) School of Biotechnology
(10) Centre for the Study of Law & Governance
(11) Centre for Molecular Medicine and
(12) Centre for Sanskrit Studies.


Eligibility:
Only those candidates shall be considered for direct admission to Ph.D. Programme who have: a) obtained M.Phil., M.Tech.*, M.P.H. degree of a recognized University/Research Institution with minimum Final Grade Point Average (FGPA) of 6.00 in 10 point scale/comparable standard where the grading is based on system other than 10 point scale. The candidates who have obtained M.Phil. degree from a University/Institution where dissertation is not graded or grading is not on 10-point scale, are required to forward a copy of their M.Phil. dissertation along with the Application Form for the purpose of assessment of their credentials. Candidates whose M.Phil./M.Tech./MPH results are awaited are not eligible to appear for viva-voce for admsision; or (b) Master's Degree with FGPA of 6.00 in the 10 point scale/comparable standard or equivalent percentage with at least 2 years research experience in reputed institutions with research publication(s) comparable to M.Phil. standard. (i) For admission to Centre for Molecular Medicine, in addition to (a) and (b) above, candidates with MBBS/B.V.Sc. degree of recognised University/Institution with one-year experience after internship or with MD or MVSc degree or with M.Tech. degree in Biotechnology after completing MSc. are also eligible. (ii) For admission to Centre for the Study of Law & Governance, in addition to (a) and (b) above, candidates with relevant administrative/legal experience are also eligible. (iii) For admission to Centre for Sanskrit Studies, in addition to (a) and (b) above, candidates with degrees from any discipline with Sanskrit and Pali background are also eligible. (iv) For Direct admission to Ph.D. programme in PSDE, Research Publications in the areas of Discrimination and Exclusion with special reference to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Minorities are desirable. (v) For School of Information Technology, only those candidates in science branch shall be considered for Direct admission to the Ph.D who have obtained M.Phil in the related field of Science, Engineering, and Pharmaceutical Science with the required Final Grade Point Average (FGPA). In addition to (a) and (b) above, candidates with Advanced Diploma (Post Graduate) in Bioinformatics with the required FGPA are also eligible.

Candidates enjoying employed status and selected for admission shall be required to produce Leave Sanction Order for a period of two years at the time of admission/registration. However, there is a limited provision for exemption of this requirement to candidates employed in research and teaching Institutions located in NCR Region.

Application Forms and Prospectus
will be available at the Counter in the Administrative Block of the University on cash payment of Rs. 200/- per set from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. on working days (Monday to Friday) during the following periods:

(i) From 2nd February to 16th March, 2009 for admission in Monsoon Semester


(ii) From 1st September to 15th October, 2009 for admission in Winter Semester

Application Forms and Prospectus can also be had through Post by sending a request alongwith crossed Bank Draft (valid for six months) for Rs. 300/- drawn in favour of Jawaharlal Nehru University payable at New Delhi alongwith a self-addressed (unstamped) envelope of minimum size of 30 x 25 cms with the words "Direct Admission to Ph.D. Programme" inscribed on it to the Deputy Registrar (Admissions), Room No. 28, Administrative Block, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi - 110067 throughout the year.

Application Forms received upto 16th March, 2009 will be considered for admission in Monsoon Semester beginning July, 2009. However, admission in Winter Semester beginning January, 2010 will be need based and subject to availability of seats in each areas of research. Interested candidates are therefore required to enquire about the availablity of seats before submitting Application Forms for admission in Winter Semester. The last date for submitting the Application Forms in Winter Semester beginning January 2010 will be 15th October 2009.
