The National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD) is a premier national center of excellence in rural development. Recognised internationally as one of the UN-ESCAP Centers of Excellence in HRD, it builds capacities of the rural development functionaries, elected representatives, academicians and young students through inter-related activities of training, research, teaching and consultancy. Its faculty comprises of experienced academicians and practitioners. The Institute has functional networks with national and international organisations, excellent training and teaching infrastructure with air-conditioned conference halls, video conferencing facilities, 150 hostel rooms, a health center and an indoor sports complex with gymnasium, swimming pool and Yoga Centre. The NIRD announces its second fully residential One Year ‘Post Graduate Diploma Programme in Rural Development Management (PGDRDM)’ with an aim to create a committed and competent cadre of Rural Development professionals in the country. While laying the theoretical foundations of rural development, the programme seeks to impart management techniques that will enhance the understanding of the paradigm and practice of rural development.

ELIGIBILITY: Graduation in any discipline from a recognised University. Students who are in the final year and expect to complete all the requirements of graduation before 1st August, 2009 may also apply. Some seats are reserved for the in-service candidates with at least two years of work experience in rural development and allied sectors. In-service candidates are required to apply through their employers. Organisational Sponsorship is essential. They may however, send an advance application. In-service candidates are also required to appear for the Entrance Test. However, a separate merit list will be prepared for their selection

SELECTION PROCESS: Selection of candidates will be made through a process of All-India Entrance Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview.

TOTAL NO. OF SEATS: 60 (may undergo some changes depending upon infrastructural contingencies)

PROGRAMME DURATION: (One year) August, 2009 to July, 2010

Rs. 1.25 lakh. The Board and Lodging expenses will be approximately Rs.80,000/-

SCHOLARSHIPS: Merit and need based scholarships may be made available to deserving candidates. The North Eastern Council has fully funded the North East region students selected for the PGDRDM in 2008-09. Similar financial support to the North East region students is likely this year as well, subject to a maximum of two students from each of the eight North Eastern states. Bank loans will also be facilitated by the NIRD for needy students.

RESERVATION: Reservations for the SC/ST/OBC and Persons with Disability (PWD) will be made as per Government of India’s policies.

ENTRANCE TEST: The Entrance Test will be conducted on 15.02.2009 at the following centres: Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dibrugarh, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Imphal, Indore, Itanagar, Jaipur, Jammu, Kolkata, Kohima,Kanpur, Lucknow, Mangalore, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, Pune, Rajkot, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Silguri, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram, Udaipur and Visakhapatanam. The NIRD reserves the right to cancel any of the centres if there are in-sufficient numbers of candidates and assign any other centre to the applicants.

NIRD will endeavour to make placements on successful completion of the PGDRDM, but does not guarantee.

How to Apply: Prospectus cum application forms can be obtained from the Admissions Officer, Centre for Post Graduate Studies (CPGS) free of cost. Application forms will also be given at NIRD – NERC office at Khanapara, Guwahati. Request for Application forms by Post should reach along with self addressed envelope of size 12” x 10” by 15.12.2008 during working hours (9.00 am to 5.30 pm). It can also be downloaded from the NIRD’s website

The filled in application form should be submitted along with the application fee of Rs.1000/- Rs.500/- for SC/ST and PWDs) through an ‘Account Payee’ Demand Draft drawn in favour of NIRD, Hyderabad. The filled in application form should be addressed to the Admissions Officer, Centre for Post Graduate Studies (CPGS), National Institute of Rural Development, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad-500 030 (A.P) so as to reach on or before 05.01.2009. Last date for receipt of applications from the Students residing in the North Eastern States is 15.01.2009. Applications received after the cut off date shall be rejected. NIRD reserves the right to make changes to the Diploma programme design/content and the process of selection, depending upon the exigencies, without assigning any reasons whatsoever.

IIT Gandhinagar

IIT Gandhinagar, in Gujarat, is one of the new IITs proposed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. Gujarat is known for excellent infrastructure with thriving industries, prestigious academic and research institutes and an ambience which encourages entrepreneurship. IIT Bombay has been identified as the mentoring institution for the IIT in Gujarat. Till the campus of the new IIT in Gujarat gets established, the classes will be held within the premises of Vishwakarma Government Engineering College, Chandkheda, Gandhinagar – 382424, which is within the municipal limits of Gandhinagar. The Golden Jubilee Extension Centre of IIT Bombay is currently located at this College. Students will be provided with residential and other facilities at a temporary location. The curriculum will be similar to that of IIT Bombay with some differences until the time the academic bodies of the new IIT is in place. Fee structure will be same as that of the mentoring Institute.

The 15th National Annual Sahodaya Conference for 2008 will be held on the 10th , 11th & 12th December at CAMPION SCHOOL AUDITORIUM, BHOPAL.

The theme of the Conference is :

Sub-themes of the conference are :

All the Sahodaya Clusters are requested to take up one of the sub themes given, collate their ideas and the best practices adopted by them in their respective local contexts and prepare a presentation adopting a case study approach.

Selected Sahodaya clusters will be requested to present the same through a collaborative / team effort. The time limit for each such presentation would be 10 minutes to be followed by interaction for about 5 minutes.

Those desirous of making presentations on the sub themes on behalf of their Sahodayas may send their entries not later than 15th November, 2008

Pattern Of AIPMT-2009 Examination


The Board is receiving a large number of queries from the candidates, whether the AIPMT (Final)-2009 examination would be subjective type of objective type? It is brought to the notice of all concerned that in the year 2009 there is no change in the pattern of AIPMT (Final) examination. Hence, the examination would be conducted in the following way :-

1. AIPMT (Preliminary) 2009 on 5th April, 2009 - OBJECTIVE TYPE

2. AIPMT (Final) 2009 on 10th May, 2009 - SUBJECTIVE TYPE

It is also brought to the notice that the pattern would be changed from AIPMT-2010 examination.

Celebrating National Education Day in CBSE

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was a freedom fighter, an eminent educationist and the first union Minister of Education of India. As per a resolution of the Ministry of Human Resource Development dated 11.09.2008 it has been decided to commemorate the birthday of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad as National Education day every year. Accordingly, to highlight the importance of education and nation’s commitment to all aspects of education, this day will celebrated:

In all CBSE affiliated schools by organizing various activities like Seminars, Symposia, Essay Writing, Elocution Competitions, Workshops, Rallies etc to celebrate this day. A circular (no 46 dated 31.10.2008) is being sent all the schools.

The current edition of CBSE Heritage Quiz scheduled to begin from 3rd November 2008 will also include appropriate coverage on the life and contributions of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.

All the offices of CBSE will observe and celebrate this day by organizing week long activities like Essay writing, Discussion & Debates to highlight the percepts and practices of education.
