IUTAM Symposium on Emerging Trends in Rotor Dynamics

IUTAM Symposium on Emerging Trends in Rotor Dynamics
Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, India
March 23-26, 2009

IUTAM Symposium on Emerging Trends in Rotor Dynamics
is being organized at IIT Delhi under the auspices of International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (IUTAM) and Indian National Science Academy (INSA).

Rotor dynamics is an important branch of discipline of dynamics that deals with behavior of large variety of rotating machines.Complex system of rotating shaft(s) supported on bearings handle large amount of energy and fluid mass, which gives rise to variety of interesting physical phenomena. Research in rotor dynamics started almost one hundred years back. Early research focused on simple issues like prediction of critical speeds. However with the advent of fast computational facilities, and accurate and versatile measurement techniques, research in this area has accelerated over the past few decades. In the process researchers have observed several new phenomena which are not fully understood even today. The demand from industry for light weight, high performance and reliable rotor-bearing systems is the driving force for research and new developments in the field of rotor dynamics.

Scope of the Symposium

Papers will be presented on all important aspects of rotor dynamics. A list of important topics is given below, which provides a broad outline of the scope (but not limited to the topics given) of the Symposium.

bullet Analytical and computational methods in rotor dynamics

bullet Experimental methods in rotor systems

bullet Instability in rotor bearing systems

bullet Misalignment, bow, crack, rub/impact, shrink fit and foundation effects

bullet Nonlinear, parametric, asymmetry and other effects in rotors

bullet System identification, model updating and SDM techniques

bullet Active/semi active rotor vibration control

bullet Smart material applications for rotor vibration control

bullet Developments in bearings, dampers and seals

bullet Non-metallic, composite rotors

bulletDiagnostics, prognostics and condition monitoring of rotors

bullet Analysis of bladed disc systems

bullet Applications to special systems - geared systems, transmissions, vertical rotors, electrical machinery, aerospace propulsion systems like high speed turbopumps, multi-spool gas turbines etc., smart and micro rotor systems.

Following schedule will be followed to finalize papers for poster sessions based on abstracts already received

Submission of manuscript of the paper for participation in Symposium : January 31, 2009
