Software Freedom Day 2008 Celebrations in UIET, Panjab University, Chandigarh

Software Freedom Day (SFD) (http://softwarefreedomday.org/) is an annual worldwide celebration of free/open-source software. SFD is a public education effort, not only to celebrate the virtues of free/open-source software, but also to encourage its use, to the benefit of the public. As the leading supporter of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) in the world, Sun Microsystems is co-sponsoring Software Freedom Day 2008, and is gearing up to educate the world (especially students), about the benefits of FOSS and how it is Changing Their World.

Under the Campus Ambassador Program, Sun Microsystems has collaborated with UIET to offer students an opportunity to learn and contribute to their pioneering open source technologies through free access to their courseware, technical demonstrations, symposiums, projects, and internships.

Sun Open Source University Meetup (OSUM) Club in UIET which is a group of Open Source enthusiasts is celebrating Software Freedom Day 2008. The following Free and Open Source Softwares and technologies will be demonstrated throughout the day along with installation and hands on lab practice:

Web Development Using Apache-Mysql-Php platform (LAMP/SAMP)

GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP)

Open Source Gaming
