NMIMS School of Business Management (SBM) announces admission to its Two Year Full -Time programs MBA, MBA – Banking, MBA – Capital Market, MBA-HR & MBA-Pharmaceutical Management at Mumbai campus and PGDM at Bengaluru & Hyderabad Campuses for academic session 2014-16.

Admissions to the above SBM programs are through NMIMS Management Aptitude Test (NMAT) followed by Case Discussion (CD) & Personal Interview (PI).

The online registrations for NMAT starts from 4th July 2013.

The Karnataka State Eligibility Test (K-SET) center for Lectureship, University of Mysore, Mysore will be holding the Test on 08th DECEMBER 2013 (Sunday) for determining the eligibility for Lectureship (Assistant Professorship) in various universities/ colleges/Institutions (Government /Aided/ Private) in Karnataka State. K-SET center will conduct the test in 32 (Thirty Two) subjects (listed under item no.IX) at 11 (Eleven) selected Centers (listed under Item no. X) spread across the Karnataka State.

The result of the K-SET to be held on 08th DECEMBER 2013 will be made available on the K-SET center website http://kset.uni-mysore.ac.in and shall also be announced in the news papers. The candidates will not be individually intimated about their result.

Conditions of Eligibility

Candidates who have secured at least 55% of aggregate marks without rounding off) in Master’s Degree OR equivalent examination from universities / institutions recognized by UGC, New Delhi in Science Subjects, Humanities (including languages) and social science, Computer science & Applications, Electronic science etc. are eligible to appear for this Test. Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC) / Scheduled Tribe (ST) / VH/PH candidates, category candidates who have secured at least 50% of aggregate marks (without rounding off) in Master’s degree or equivalent examination are eligible for this Test.

Candidates who have appeared OR will be appearing at the qualifying Master’s degree (final year) examination and whose result is still awaited OR candidates whose qualifying examinations have been delayed may also apply for this Test. However, such candidates will be admitted provisionally and shall be considered eligible for the award of Lectureship eligibility only after they have passed their Master’s degree examination or equivalent with at least 55% of aggregate marks (50% of aggregates marks in case of SC/ST/ VH/PH category candidates). Such candidates must complete their Master’s degree examination within Two years from the date of K-SET result with the required percentage of marks, failing which they shall be treated as disqualified.

The Ph.D. Degree holders whose Master's level examination had been completed by 19th September 1991 (irrespective of declaration of result) shall be eligible for a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks (i.e. from 55 to 50%) for appearing for K-SET.

Candidates shall appear to the K-SET in the subject of their post-graduation only, as per list of subjects mentioned in item No. IX. In case the subject of candidate is NOT included in K-SET subjects, as per UGC guidelines, the candidate may appear in UGC NET/UGC-CSIR NET examination.

Candidates seeking concession in fee are required to submit the attest copy of their, SC/ST/Cat-I/VH/PH candidates along with hard copy of the online printout of their Application Form (obtained while applying online). Therefore, the candidates, in their own interest, must satisfy themselves about their eligibility for the Test before submitting their online application form. In the event of any ineligibility being detected with respect to caste certificate by the K-SET centre at any stage, their candidature will be cancelled, their results will be withheld and they shall be liable for legal action.

Candidates belonging to OBC Category (category IIA, IIB, IIIA and IIIB) have to submit their respective caste certificates along with the hard copy of application form. The category certificates should be a valid certificate or issued before six months on the last date of the submission of online application form. In the event of any ineligibility being detected by the K-SET center with respect to caste certificate at any stage, their candidature will be cancelled, their results will be withheld and they shall be liable for legal action.

Candidates belonging to the General category are not required to submit any Caste certificates / documents in support of their eligibility along with printout of their application form.

Candidates possessing post-graduate diploma / certificate course(s), should in their own interest, ascertain the equivalence of their course(s) with Master’s degree of recognized Indian Universities from Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi website: www.aiuweb.org

KBAT - Karnataka Biotechnology Aptitude Test 2013 - 2014

KBITS (Karnataka Biotechnology and Information Technology), Department of IT, BT and S&T (Science & Technology), Government of Karnataka, Department of Biotechnology, Government of India and ABLE (Association of Biotech Led Enterprise) has initiated BTFS (Biotechnology Finishing School) program to educate and empower human resource required for the biotechnology sector.The process of admission to BTFS involves an online test KBAT (Karnataka Biotechnology Aptitude Test) followed by interviews of high merit students in Bangalore.

The online test is open to eligible students across the country from any cyber center or with good home-based facility of internet.The online exam KBAT will be conducted by KBITS on 6th & 7th of August 2013. Students interested in admission to BTFS program must register to take up KBAT online exam on or before 31st of July 2013.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must have a minimum of 50% in Masters degree from Universities of the state or any other University recognized as equivalent in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics or any other life science related courses; B.E./ B.Tech. – Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Bachelor of Pharmacy, Agriculture, Veterinary, MBBS and BDS are also eligible to apply.

Candidates who have appeared for the M.Sc / B.E. final exams can also apply. Upon selection, a provisional degree certificate should be submitted to the respective colleges within two weeks of course commencement.

Fee Structure

Fees for the 12 months' program shall not exceed Rs.50,000/- per student.
A sum of Rs. 10,000 (non-refundable) to be paid for confirming the allotted seat and Rs. 40,000 to be paid directly to the BTFS host institution.

Second Summit of the Science Academies of South Asia

Second Summit of the Science Academies of South Asia
INSA, New Delhi 24-27 September 2013

Background (First Summit) The Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi organized the First  Summit of the South Asian Academies of Sciences during 6-9 September 2012 at its premises. Presidents and top representatives of 9 Academies namely, Afghanistan Academy of Sciences; African Academy of Sciences, Nairobi (a pan African organization representing 32 African countries); Bangladesh Academy of Sciences; Indian National Science Academy; The Academy of Sciences of Islamic Republic of Iran; Mauritius Academy of Science & Technology; Nepal Academy of Science & Technology; Pakistan Academy of Sciences and The National Academy of Sciences of Sri Lanka participated in the deliberations. A declaration, “Delhi Declaration”, was released at the end of the Summit after detailed discussions and deliberation focused on major societal issues: Energy Options; Health care and Infectious Diseases; Science Education; Science and Society; Women in Science; Urbanization; Climate Change and Inclusive innovation. Creating a Network of the South Asian Academies of Science and to organize the Summit annually was resolved in the final Session of the Summit.

Proposed Second Summit:

Following the resolution of the First Summit, the Second Summit of Science Academies of South Asia is scheduled to be held during 24-27 September 2013 at INSA, New Delhi. On the day one, i.e. 24th September 2013, a Workshop on “Women in Science Education and Research" will be organized jointly with the Association of Academies and Societies of Sciences in Asia (AASSA). The Science Academies of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have been invited. In addition, Science Academies from Africa, Korea, Malaysia, Mauritius and Turkey have also been invited as especial delegates to participate in the Workshop and Summit.

The following issues will be discussed :

ICT Tools in Enhancing Quality of Higher Education;
Agricultural Productivity, Food and Nutrition;
Sustainable Development: Post 2015 Scenario; and
Role of S&T and Innovation.

It is expected that a high level delegations led by Presidents of the participating Academies will actively participate in the deliberation of the Second Summit.

IGNOU - M.Phil / Ph.D Admissions January 2014 Cycle

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) announces admission to Research Degree Programmes in various Disciplines for January 2014 Cycle.

A candidate seeking registration in the Research Degree Programmes (MPhil/PhD) must hold a Master’s Degree in the relevant Discipline/Areas or other equivalent qualification.

The candidate should have secured at least 55% marks in the Master’s Degree (50% for Reserved Category).

An Entrance Examination (ENTEX-01) shall be conducted on all-India basis at examination centers located in various regions. Candidates with only Post graduate Qualification (with a minimum of 55% marks in the Master’s Degree/50% for Reserved Categories) will have to appear in ENTEX-01. In addition, select Disciplines may prescribe Entrance Examination for all the candidates even if they have additional qualifications.

Candidates qualifying in the Entrance Examination will have to appear in an Interview at IGNOU Headquarters.

Candidates holding Master’s Degree with 55% (50% for Reserved Category) and MPhil/UGC-NET/SLET/JEST of DAE/GATE of IIT or equivalent examination or have Professional/Work Experience as prescribed by the Discipline may be exempted from the Entrance Examination

All applicants will attach a research proposal prepared as per guidelines and instructions in application form without which the application is liable to be rejected. This condition is applicable even on candidates taking ENTEX-01.

The last date for receipt of filled-in Application Form at IGNOU, New Delhi is 8th August 2013. Date of ENTEX-01 is 8th September 2013.

Pathankot Colleges Gets MCO Nod for Admissions

The Medical Council of India (MCI) has allowed Chintpurni Medical College, Pathankot, to admit MBBS students for the upcoming session, even as the Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Jalandhar, continues to be barred from admissions.

Both institutes have 150 MBBS seats each.Last year, the MCI had refused permission to the Chintpurni college, established in 2011, to admit students after an inspection revealed several deficiencies, including inadequate infrastructure. During the 2012 session, the college had made no admissions.

The MCI Board of governors has now permitted the enrolment of students following the Supreme Court's directions on a petition filed by the college.

"The MCI's decision has brought some relief to parents as well as students. Now, they have 150 more seats to choose from. The Punjab government should now make efforts to work out a solution for PIMS," said Vijay Kumar Garg, Bathinda-based president of the Parents Association of Medical Aspirants. The total number of MBBS seats in the state has now gone up to 1,095.

The KVPY Fellowships are given only to Indian Nationals to Study in India (OCI and PIO’s are not eligible).

Students enrolled in an undergraduate course in Basic Sciences, that is, B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S. in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Ecology, Molecular Biology, Botany, Zoology, Physiology, Biotechnology, Neurosciences, Bioinformatics, Marine Biology, Geology, Human Biology, Genetics, Biomedical Sciences, Applied Physics or Geophysics.

Stream SA: Students enrolled in XI Standard (Science Subjects) during the academic year 2013-14 and having secured a minimum of 80% (70% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects in the X Standard Board examination. The students under this stream will be mentored for one year. Their fellowship will be activated when they enrol in an undergraduate course in Basic Sciences (B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S.) after XII Standard(+2) securing a minimum of 60% (50%for SC/ST/PWD) mark or equivalent grade. During the mentoring period of one year, they will be invited for Regional Science Camp/National Science Camp and expenses for attending those camps will be met by KVPY.

Stream SX: Students enrolled in XII Standard/ (+2) (Science subjects) during the academic year 2013–14 and aspiring to join an undergraduate program in Basic Sciences namely Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics & Biology leading to B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S. for the session 2014–15 provided they have secured a minimum of 80% (70% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects (Physics/Chemistry/Biology) in the X Standard Board Examination. They must secure 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects (Physics/Chemistry/Biology) in the XII standard Board Examination before taking up the fellowship, if awarded.

They must secure 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects (Physics/Chemistry/Biology) in the XII standard Board Examination before taking up the fellowship, if awarded.

In the 1st year final examination of B.Sc./B.S./B.Math./B.Stat./Int. M.Sc./M.S. they must secure 60%(50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks before taking up the fellowship, if awarded.

Eligibility

- Minimum qualification - Pass in the examination of 10+2 system of Senior Secondary education (any stream) or its equivalent with English as one of the compulsory subject from any recognized Board of Examinations.

- Upper age limit for candidates from General and OBC categories (central list, non-creamy layer) is 22 years as on 01.07.2013 and for SC/ST candidates, upper age limit is 25 years as on 01.07.2013.

Selection of candidates

The 5th IEEE International Conference on Technology for Education

The IEEE International Conference on Technology for Education, T4E 2013, will be held at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, India during December 18-20, 2013. It will provide a forum to bring together colleagues interested in promoting learning and teaching through the use of technology. Papers are invited from students, teachers and researchers in academia and industry to present the results of their research and development efforts in education through the use of technology and discuss further directions.

This is the fifth in a series of annual events with the first held in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad in the years 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 , respectively.

Fifty Ninth Annual Convocation

The Fifty Ninth Annual Convocation of the Institute will be held on Saturday the 27th July 2013. All students graduating in the session 2012 – 2013 are eligible to be awarded the degrees at the Convocation either in person or in absentia.

For Award of Degree in Person:

1. Register in the Exhibition Hall (Ground Floor of Main Building) during 9.30 am and 12.30 p.m. on July 26, 2013 and produce the receipt of the amount paid.

2. Collect the Convocation Scarf from Exhibition Hall.

3. Attend a full-scale rehearsal of the Convocation on July 26, 2013 at 3.30 p.m. in the Netaji Auditorium.

4. Follow the guidelines ( to be circulated to you on July 26, 2013) for the Convocation on 27th July, 2013.

5. Follow the dress code given below for both the rehearsal and the actual Convocation:

a) For Boys: Light colour plain full-sleeve shirt (no printed design) dark colour plain trouser (no printed design) and shoes with socks

b) For Girls: Light colour plain sari or light colour plain Salwar Kurta (no printed design) with scarf and ladies shoes.

6. Registration for participation, attendance in the rehearsal, and the dress code are mandatory, failing which no recipient will be permitted to attend the Convocation.

MBA Admission 2013 - Last Date Extended

Last date for submission of application forms (offline and online) for admission to MBA programme is extended upto 15th of July, 2013. Graduates in any discipline with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (45% for SC/ST) can apply. Admission would be based on the aggregate merit of:

• Academic Weightage of Qualifying Examination
• Valid Score of CMAT conducted by AICTE
• Group Discussion and Personal Interview

Candidates shortlisted on the basis of percentage of Qualifying Examination and Valid CMAT Score in the ratio of 30:70 respectively, would be called for Group Discussion and Personal Interview to be held on July 30-31, 2013 at the Transit Campus of the University.
