The University admits a limited number of candidates directly to Ph.D. programme either on the basis of viva-voce or written examination and viva-voce both as may be decided by the University both in Monsoon and Winter Semesters in various areas of research in the (1) School of International Studies (2) School of Social Sciences (3) School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies (4) School of Computer & Systems Sciences (5) School of Physical Sciences (6) School of Environmental Sciences (7) School of Life Sciences (8) School of Arts and Aesthetics (9) School of Computational and Integrative Sciences (10) School of Biotechnology (11) Centre for the Study of Law & Governance (12) Centre for Molecular Medicine and (13) Centre for Sanskrit Studies. Candidates are required to check the availability of seats in each Centre/School before applying for admission in Winter Semester.

Eligibility: Candidates are requested to refer to the Prospectus 2012-13 (available on JNU website (www.jnu.ac.in) for details regarding eligibility requirements for direct admission to Ph.D. programme under the respective Schools/Special Centres. Candidates enjoying employed status and selected for admission shall be required to produce LEAVE SANCTION ORDER for a period of two years at the time of admission/registration. However, there is a limited provision for exemption of this requirement to candidates employed in research and teaching Institutions located in NCR.

Application Forms and Prospectus will also be available by post during the following periods:

(i) From 6th February to 5th March, 2012 for admission in Monsoon Semester
(ii) From 1st September to 8th October, 2012 for admission in Winter Semester

On behalf of the participating Universities, the Jawaharlal Nehru University will hold Combined Biotechnology Entrance Examination on Thursday, the 25th May, 2012, for admission to (1) M.Sc. (Biotechnology); (2) M.Sc.Agri./M.V.Sc(Biotechnology) and (3) M.Tech (Biotechnology) Programmes being offered by various participating Universities (as per details given against each).The entrance examination will be held at following 52 cities: Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Allahabad, Amritsar, Bangalore, Bareilly, Bhubaneswar, Calicut, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Dehradun, Delhi, Dimapur, Gangtok, Goa, Gorakhpur, Guwahati, Gwalior, Hyderabad, Secunderabad ,Imphal, Indore, Itanagar, Jaipur, Jammu, Katihar, Kolkata, Lucknow, Madurai, Mumbai, Nagpur, Noida, Pantnagar, Patna, Pondicherry, Pune, Raipur, Ranchi, Sambalpur, Shillong, Shimla, Silchar, Siliguri, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram, Udaipur, Vadodara, Varanasi, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam. The sites have been designed in a ‘user friendly’ way to help candidates for applying Online in a step-by-step fashion. Online application portal will remain open from 10:00 AM (IST) on 6th February, 2012 till 5:00 PM (IST) on 21st March, 2012. Advertisement For Admission 2012 To Ph. D. (Tech.) In Computer Science & Engineering

Applications are invited for admission to the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, University of Calcutta (92 Acharya Prafulla Chandra Road, Kolkata 700009) for Ph.D. Course and subsequent research work leading to Ph.D. degree in Computer Science & Engineering under the Faculty of Technology. Candidates who wish to pursue research work through this Department should apply in the prescribed proforma by paying Rs. 100/- through a challan available through different University Cash counters. The proforma for application is available in the University website. The challan is to be duly forwarded through the HoD, Department of Computer Science & Engineering. The completed application form with a copy of the paid challan is to be submitted in the office of the Department by March 12, 2012. The eligible candidates will have to appear in a written MCQ examination to be
held in this Department on a subsequent date to be notified later. The successful candidates will be called for an interview. The final selection for joining this Department as a Ph.D. student will be on the basis of this interview. At present a maximum of 20 Ph.D. students (reservation is applicable as per the National/State reservation policy) will be taken, if found suitable. The allocation of supervisor will also be on the basis of this interview (see the University website for the areas on which research is carried on here). Those candidates who have already passed UGC/ CSIR(JRF) examinations /NET /SET /SLET /GATE /Teacher Fellowship or equivalent examinations or passed the M. Tech./M.E. degree in Computer Science & Engineering or equivalent examination need not appear at the written examination and can directly appear at the interview.

Eligibility: M.E./M.Tech./ Post B.Sc. - B.Tech/B.Tech. /B.E. in Computer Science & Engineering, MCA. A candidate with Post B.Sc. - B. Tech. / B. Tech. /B. E. may also apply for the program as per provision laid down in the section 4.4 of the Ph.D. regulations. The same criteria would also be applicable for MCA students. The final semester/year students for the above qualifying courses may also apply. However, such candidates, if selected, must complete their qualifying degree before the date of enrolment.

The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda announces Entrance Examination for eligibility for admission to Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PET) on Sunday, the 11th day of March 2012 during 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at General Education Building, Opp. D. N. Hall Cricket Ground, Pratapgunj, Vadodara.

Conditions of eligibility : The candidates holding recognized Master’s degree or recognized equivalent to the Master’s degree with at least 50% of marks or equivalent grades are eligible to apply for this examination. The candidates who have appeared at the qualifying Master Degree (Final year) examination and whose result is still awaited may also apply for this examination. However, such candidates shall be issued certificate of passing Ph.D. entrance examination and considered eligible for admission to Doctor of Philosophy program only after they produce passing certificate of their Master’s Degree with 50% of marks or equivalent grades. In case they do not pass their Master’s Degree with 50% of marks or equivalent grades, their result of Ph.D. entrance examination shall automatically stand cancelled. The candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribes (ST)/Physically Handicapped (PH)/Socially and Economically Backward Class (SEBC) should attach attested copy of necessary certificates with the application form.

The duly filled in application form should be submitted “In person” on or before Friday, the 24th day of February 2012 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on all working days at the Examination Section (Room Number 205), University Office, along with fees of ` 550/- paid in cash or by DD drawn in favour of “The Registrar, The M.
