“Make your Idea our Logo” design competition launched by the International AIDS Society (IAS) and AIDS 2014 partners to select the logo of the 20th International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2014)

From 20-25 July 2014 more than 18,000 delegates from all over the world will gather in Melbourne, Australia, to attend the 20th International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2014). The convening of the conference in Asia-Pacific will highlight the issues related to the HIV epidemic in a region with the largest geographic area and population in the world, varying levels of wealth and a mix of cultures which create specific challenges, and successes, in the response to the epidemic.

For the first time at AIDS 2014 the conference logo, one of the most important tools to promote the meeting, will be selected through a competition specifically addressed to young people (age 10 – 30). This initiative reflects the conference’s basic principle of inclusiveness and it is also meant to raise HIV awareness among youth. “Almost half of all new HIV infections in the world are among people under 25. Globally, 5.4 million young people are living with HIV and youth remains the most vulnerable group to HIV infections due to a number of reasons, including lack of information and education”, said Local Co-Chair of AIDS 2014 Professor Sharon Lewin. “AIDS 2014 will have a robust Youth Programme aimed at increasing the participation of young people and the profile of youth issues at the conference. As part of these efforts, we think the competition will help to draw young people’s attention to the HIV epidemic and to AIDS 2014. In past conferences, youth advocacy has played a key role in shaping the HIV agenda. By capturing the energy, the passion and the commitment of youth, we are sure the logo will contribute to make AIDS 2014 another milestone in the history of HIV”.

The winner of the “Make your Idea our Logo” competition will be invited with an accompanying person to attend the conference in Melbourne where a formal presentation of the winning logo will take place.

General Eligibility Criteria and Selection Procedure

A candidate is eligible for Admission and Registration in the MPhil/PhD Programme provided he/she has qualified :

(a) For the award of Master’s Degree of any recognized University/other qualification recognized as equivalent thereto in such fields of study as are notified for the purpose from time to time by the University. The minimum qualifying marks are 55% at Post Graduation level (50% in case of reserved categories), and

(b) In the Entrance Examination conducted by the University at the national level on the pattern of UGC/CSIR. However, candidates holding MPhil degree or those candidates who have cleared JEST of DAE or UGC-NET or GATE of IIT or those having at least five years of related Teaching/Practical/Industry/Professional experience as validated by the respective Disciplines may be exempted from appearing in the Entrance Examination.

University Grants Commission invites applications for the award of 1000 PG Scholarships under the scheme of PG Scholarship for Professional Courses for SC & ST candidates for the year 2012-2013 to undertake postgraduate level studies in professional subjects like Engineering & Technology, Management, Pharmacy etc. on regular basis only.

Only those candidates who have been admitted in postgraduate professional subjects at recognised universities/colleges during the academic session 2012-13 are eligible to apply under the scheme.

Selection will be made on the basis of merit by the Expert Committee. The guidelines of the scheme, detailed terms and conditions of the Scholarship, eligibility etc. may be seen by logging in the UGC website at www.ugc.ac.in

Ph.D. Entrance Test in Museology 2012

Applications are invited for admission to the Department of Museology, University of Calcutta (1 Reformatory Street, Kolkata 700 027) for Ph.D. Course and subsequent research work leading to Ph.D. degree in Museology. Candidates desiring to pursue research work in the Department may apply in the prescribed pro-forma (can be downloaded from the University website) by paying Rs. 100/- through a Challan obtainable from the University Cash Counter by 14 December 2012.

Eligible candidates (having Master’s Degree in relevant subjects) will have to appear in an Entrance Test of 100 marks, to be held in this Department on 27 December 2012, comprising a written examination, followed by an interview.

Those candidates who have already passed UGC (JRF) Examinations/ NET/ SET/ SLET or equivalent examinations or passed the MPhil or equivalent examination need not appear in the written examination and can directly appear in the interview. Details of the Entrance Test are given below:

1) The Written Examination of one and a half hour duration shall comprise 5 Questions of 4 marks each, based on a relevant paragraph to assess research aptitude; 15 Multiple Choice Type Questions of 2 marks each, from the core subjects; and 25 marks for a Research Proposal. There will be no negative markings.

2) Questions would be based mainly on the first three papers of the current MA/ MSc Museology syllabus, viz., Organisation & Management, Exhibition & Education, and Care & Conservation, though relevant other areas like, Basic Computer Applications, General Knowledge, Current Affairs, Analytical Abilities, etc., may also be covered.

3) Candidates getting 40% and above in the written examination will qualify for interview of 25 marks. Date for the interview would be displayed in the Departmental Notice Board.

At present 5 Ph.D. students will be enrolled, if qualified, under the empanelled supervisors including faculty members and external supervisors. Reservations for SC/ ST candidates shall be applicable as per rules. Successful candidates will have to complete a course work of one-semester duration. Course content will be as follows:

a. Research Methodology, quantitative methods and computer applications,
b. Research/ literature Review, and
c. Current developments in Museology.

Admission to the fully residential two year PGDFM is open to graduates from any discipline provided he/she fulfils the eligibility criteria and qualifies through the selection process.

Eligibility

Applicants should have at least a three-year bachelor’s degree in any discipline obtained through the 10+2+3 system or an equivalent qualification recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), with a minimum 50% aggregate marks (45% for SC/ST/DA) or equivalent CGPA.

Candidates appearing for the final year graduation examination are also eligible to apply provided they complete it before June 30, 2013 and fulfill the eligibility criteria as set by IIFM.

General Instructions:

1. The application form is common for Indian, In-service national and international candidates

2. E-mail addresses should be clear, genuine and active. Please do not give e-mail IDs of friends and relatives. The email account should be regularly checked as the NIRD sends most of its communication through the e-mail

3. Address for correspondence should be clearly and fully written along with permanent address and pin code, failing which your application will be rejected.

4. Students belonging to North-East region residing in the North-East or anywhere in the country should attach a copy of the Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC).

5. Telephone numbers should be clearly written with proper STD/ISD codes.

6. The reservation policy for SC/ST/OBC and PWD candidates, as determined by the Government of India, will be followed. Failure to submit an authentic and attested copy of the caste certificate / PWD certificate, will mean that the candidate will be treated as ‘General Category Candidate’

7. The selection process of candidates including In-service candidates will be based on (a) Written
Test (b) Group Discussion and (c) Personal Interview. However, a separate merit list will be prepared for the selection of In-service candidates.

8. Candidates desirous of seeking education loans from Banks may do so on their own or make an application to NIRD if selected, for facilitation by NIRD

9. Filled in applications should reach The Coordinator Admissions, Centre for Post Graduate Studies (CPGS), National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD), Rajendranagar, Hyderabad before the stipulated date.

10. All the disputes regarding PGDRDM shall be subject to the jurisdiction of Andhra Pradesh High Court only.

11. After the finalization of admissions, no further correspondence shall be entertained.

12. Any recommendation for seeking admission shall lead to disqualification.

13. No change in Test Center will be allowed after allotment. NIRD reserves the right to change the Test Centre from one place to another based on administrative reasons.

14. Incomplete application forms will be summarily rejected.

15. National and International in-service candidates are required to stay in the Campus quarters and manage their own kitchen.

16. Application fee is non-refundable. DD should be drawn in favor of NIRD-PGDRDM, payable at Hyderabad.

Eligibility

The eligibility for admission is minimum 50 % marks in the degree examination (10+2+3) of a recognized University. Candidates who are appearing for their qualifying examination are also eligible to apply. A relaxation of 5 % in total aggregate marks is admissible to candidates belonging to reserved categories of SC, ST and PwD.

Seats Available

The total number of seats available are 62 including reservation. 27 % (17) seats are reserved for OBC category,15 % (9) for SC category,7.5 % (5) for ST category and 3 % (2-Supernumerary) for Persons with Disability (PwD) category candidates.

Selection Criteria

A candidate has to qualify a written admission test of two hours duration consisting of four parts – Verbal Ability, Quantitative Ability, Logical Ability and Data Interpretation. Each part shall consist of 40 questions carrying 4 marks each. There is negative marking of 1 mark for every wrong answer.

A limited number of candidates will be called for Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GDPI) on the basis of merit order of written test.

Appearance in GDPI is must for selection.

The weightage for Written Test and GDPI will be 75 % and 25 % respectively.

A final selection will be made in order of merit under respective category on the basis of total marks obtained by candidates in Written Test and GDPI.

All components of the admission process must be completed for consideration of final selection

The written test will be held on Sunday, January 27,2013 from 10.00 a.m.to 12.00 noon at Amritsar, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Patna, Guwahati, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Nagpur, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Bengaluru, Hyderabad,Chennai & Trivandrum.

The application form along with other required enclosures, duly filled in, should be submitted w.e.f.November 23,2012 to December 31,2012 with the College Office either personally or by post/courier. Attested copies of certificates for educational qualifications and other documents would be required at the time of finalizing admission; however, self attested photocopy of caste/category certificate in respect of candidates belonging to OBC, SC, ST, PwD category should be attached with the application form. In case of OBC candidates, their caste should not only be in state list, but in central list also. Further they must satisfy the non-creamy layer criteria. It is for information of all concerned that the entrance test held for MD/M S examination of PGIMER, Chandigarh (for January, 2013 session) held on 10.11.2012, in pursuance of Admission Notice No. 91/2012, stands cancelled/scrapped.

This entrance test will now be held on 8.12.2012 (Saturday) from 10.00 A.M to 1.00 P.M

The admit cards for the entrance examination already issued are valid for the entrance examination which has been scheduled to be re-conducted on 08.12.2012. The duplicate Admit Card may be taken from the Training Branch on any working day upto 7.12.2012 during office timings. No Duplicate Admit card will be issued on the day of entrance examination (08.12.2012).

The candidates are allow ed to appear in the entrance examination provisionally. The entry of the candidates in the examination hall is permitted from 0800 hours to 0930 hours only on the production of Roll Number slip/Admit Card issued by the Institute. Integrated Ph.D Programme - August 2013

IISER Pune invites application for Integrated PhD programme starting in August 2013. The applications open from 15 November 2012. The application submission deadline is 15 December 2012.

The entrance examination would be held at IISER Pune on 2-3 February, 2013 (Saturday - Sunday). The written examination would be held on the 2 February, 2013 and the interviews of the shortlisted candidates will commence the same afternoon. Depending on the number of shortlisted candidates, interviews would continued on 3 February, 2013. The candidates are advised to come prepared to stay in Pune for both these days.

I am yet to complete my degree. Can I apply for the Integrated Ph.D. program?

Yes, you can apply for the program if you are in the final year of your qualifying degree. Your selection would be provisional and you would be expected to submit your final marksheets before you join. You would need to score atleast 60% marks at the completion of your degree to get admitted to the program.

3rd Indo-German Conference on Modeling Chemical and Biological (RE) Activity (26th February-1st March 2013)


Goals of the Symposium

To have an Indo-German meeting on interconnecting concepts in computational modeling of chemical reactivity and biological activity. Both fields have in common the challenge of working with large systems at molecular resolution as well as the goal to match existing experimental data with high accuracy. Theoretical methods are expected to provide quantitative models for the rationalization of existing data and for the prediction of the properties of new systems in pharmaceutical and catalysis research. A list of possible subtopics includes:

Do You Know AIEEE 2013 will be Now Called as JEE (Main) 2013?

AIEEE will be Now Called as JEE (Main)

In pursuance of MHRD’s directions and subsequent decision of the JEE Apex Board on JEE (Main) and (Advanced) held on 25.08.2012, the JEE (Main) Examination, 2013 (hitherto known as AIEEE - Paper I) for admissions to B.E./B.Tech courses at NITs, IIITs, DTU, Delhi and other CFTIs will be held during April, 2013.

The JEE (Main) (Paper I of earlier AIEEE) for B.E./B.Tech will be held in two modes, viz offline and online (CBT). The offline examination for JEE (Main) will be held on 7th April, 2013 and the online examinations will be held thereafter in April, 2013.

The examination (Paper II of earlier AIEEE) for admissions to B.Arch/B.Planning courses at NITs, IIITs, DTU, Delhi and other CFTIs will be held on 7th April, 2013 in offline mode only. The merit list for admission to NITs, IIITs, DTU, Delhi and other CFTIs will be prepared by giving 40% weightage (suitably normalised) to class XII (or equivalent examination) or other qualifying examination marks and 60% to the performance in JEE (Main) Examination.

Only 1,50,000 of the top rankers in JEE (Main), which includes students from all categories (GE, OBC (NCL), SC and ST) will be eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced)-2013 (hitherto known as IIT-JEE) for admission to IITs, IIT BHU and ISM Dhanbad. Notice in this regard has been issued by the IIT system separately.
