National Entrance Screening Test (NEST) 2011 National Entrance Screening Test (NEST) is a compulsory test for students seeking admission to National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar and University of Mumbai – Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CBS), Mumbai. Both NISER and UM-DAE CBS have been started by Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India in 2007. Their mandate is to train scientific manpower for carrying out cutting edge scientific research and for providing input to scientific programs of Department of Atomic Energy and other applied science institutions in the country. The test is conducted in 37 centers across India. This brochure gives the detailed procedure for applying for the test, syllabus of the test and various deadlines.

Eligibility: Students securing at least 60% marks in aggregate (or equivalent grade) in Class XII (or equivalent) examination from any recognized Board in India are eligible to apply. For Scheduled Cast (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates and for Persons with Disability (PD), the minimum requirement is 55%. Students who have passed the Class XII qualifying examination in 2009 or 2010 or are appearing in 2011 are eligible to apply. ( Where only Letter grade is given by the Board, a certificate from the Board specifying equivalent percentage marks will be required. In the absence of such a certificate the decision of the respective Admissions Committee will be final.)

UP State Entrance Examination (UPSEE - 2011)

The entrance examination for degree level engineering institutions and management and other professional colleges has been assigned to Mahamaya Technical University, Noida vide Govt. order no. 4260/solah-12009-13(7)/09 dated 18-01-2010. Further, the Govt. of Uttar Pradesh, Technical Education Department, vide office order has consented for the constitution of Central Admission Board (CAB) under the Chairmanship of the Vice Chancellor, Mahamaya Technical University, Noida to supervise and control the State Entrance Examination herein after referred as UPSEE- 2011 being conducted by MTU, Noida. The CAB has absolute right for conducting of UPSEE- 2011, and to decide about modalities of admissions and allotment of seats. The jurisdiction of CAB extends to colleges/institutes affiliated to GBTU, Lucknow and MTU, Noida. The CAB is authorised to take every decision regarding conduct and admissions through UPSEE.

The Entrance Examination for admission to first year of the following courses offered at the Institutions affiliated to GBTU, Lucknow and MTU, Noida including other mentioned universities situated in territory of Uttar Pradesh for the academic year 2011-12 shall be conducted by Mahamaya Technical University, Noida, as UPSEE- 2011.

(i)The eligible candidates seeking direct admission to second year of B. Tech. (for engineering diploma holders and B.Sc. graduates both) or B.Pharm. (only for Pharmacy diploma holders) in institutions affiliated to GBTU, Lucknow and MTU, Noida, are required to submit the application forms to Registrar, Mahamaya Technical University, Noida by 04th March, 2011. Such candidates are also required to appear in the specified paper of entrance examination.

(ii) Such seats are limited to a maximum of 10% in addition to the sanctioned intake in institutions/colleges for different courses at first year level.

(iii) Direct admission to second year shall not be made in B.Arch./BHMCT/BFAD/MBA/MCA Courses.

For assam agricultural university, guwahati : For admission into the M.V.Sc. programme in Animal Biotechnology, a candidate has to pass B.V.Sc. & A.H. from a recognized university securing a minimum OGPA of 7.00 in 10.00 scale or equivalent. In case of SC/ST candidates, the minimum requirement of OGPA is relaxable to 6.50 in 10.00 scale.

Only those candidates who have passed the qualifying examinations in 2009 or thereafter including those who are appearing in 2010 are eligible to apply. In other words, those who have passed the qualifying examination PRIOR to 2009, are not eligible to apply.

3. M.Tech in Biotechnology


M.Tech (Biotechnology) Programme at(1) Anna University, Chennai; (2) Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi, Kerala; & (3) West Bengal University of Technology, Kolkata.

Eligibility: Minimum 60% marks or equivalent grade in any one: B.Tech/B.E. in Chemical Engineering/Biochemical Engineering, Industrial Biotechnology, Leather Technology, Chemistry/Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, B. Pharma, Chemical Technology, OR M.Sc. in Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics, Biophysics, Microbial Genetics and Bioinformatics. (For Anna University: Candidates with B.Tech/B.E in Electrochemistry, Bioengineering, Pharmaceutical Technology, Food Technology and M.Sc. in Chemistry & Physics are also eligible. For West Bengal University of Technology : Candidates with M.Sc. in Bioengineering are also eligible. For Cochin University of Science and Technology: Candidates with M.Sc in Marine Biotechnology, Marine Biology/Aquatic Biology & Fisheries, Environmental Biotechnology are also eligible.).

The Bank Draft should be drawn in favour of "Jawaharlal Nehru University" payable at New Delhi. The request should accompany a self-addressed unstamped envelope of the size of 30x25 cms. indicating clearly on the top of the self addressed envelope the programme for which Application Form is required, i.e., "M.Sc. Biotechnology" OR "M.Sc.(Agri.)/M.V.Sc. Biotechnology" OR "M.Tech. Biotechnology".

Application Forms and Prospectus for admission to the various programmes of study are being issued by the University from 7th February 2011.

Entrance Examination for admission to various programmes of study under Category 'A' will be held between 17th and 20th May 2011 in 51 cities in India and also in Kathmandu (Nepal).

Sets of Application Form and Prospectus can be obtained either

(i) Through post

1. for JNU Entrance Examination: by sending crossed Bank Draft (valid for six months) for Rs. 300/-
2. for Combined Entrance Examination for Biotechnology Programme: by sending crossed Bank draft (valid for six months) for Rs.260/-

drawn in favour of Jawaharlal Nehru University payable at New Delhi alongwith a self-addressed (unstamped) envelope of the minimum size of 30 cms X 25 cms. clearly indicating the Category for which the Application Form is required on the self-addressed envelope to the Section Officer (Admissions), Room No. 28, Administrative Block, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi-110067. Money Orders and Cheques are not accepted. Please do not send requests for application form through private courier services;

(ii) in person from the Counter in the Administrative Block of the University on cash payment of Rs.200/- per set from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and from 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. on all working days (Monday to Friday). BPL card holders will be issued a set of application form & prospectus free of cost on submissiion of a copy of the BPL card issued by the competent authority showing their name in the card.

Admissions to the B.Tech course offered by Bhagwant University are done by CCB through Entrance Examination (AIEEE) .Admissions to the other courses offered by Bhagwant University are done either by through Entrance Examinations (ENAT, UJET, BUCET) Merit of other competitive exams conducted by independent bodies such as AIEEE, CAT, and MAT etc. are also considered.

If seats remain vacant after entrance examination in any course and students are not available in the waiting list made on the basis of marks obtained in the Entrance Examination, Admission will be made from another list made considering the marks obtained in the qualifying examination, spot test and interview conducted by the University.

A Notification will be issued in News paper and will also be posted at website of the University regarding the date of spot test and interview along with other relevant details regarding to the examination
