The Open Society Scholarship Programs is pleased to announce the South Asia Scholarship Program for Afghanistan and Nepal. The program provides opportunities and scholarships for high quality post-graduate study for individuals from Afghanistan and Nepal who demonstrate both academic and professional excellence and the potential to become leaders in the field of Sustainable Development Practice

The Program also introduces students from the participating countries to colleagues from the region and encourages cross-national dialogues among professional communities. Approximately 10 awards (up to 5 per country) will be granted in 2012. Fellows will be placed at TERI University (www.teriuniversity.ac.in) in India for two-year graduate programs in Sustainable Development Practice beginning in July 2012 and concluding in May 2014.

Admissions open for 2012-13: Common Test and Counseling for Engineering


Manipal University will, for the first time, hold a common entrance test and counseling for admissions to BTech courses for the academic session 2012-13. The test and counseling will be held simultaneously for Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal; Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology, Sikkim and Manipal University, Jaipur to facilitate students.

The online entrance test will be conducted in 30 cities across India. In addition, Dubai will be the first overseas exam centre to be introduced this year to enable students from the region to take the exams instead of coming to India. The counseling will be held at Bangalore, Jaipur, Manipal and Sikkim and the seat allotment will be done as per merit secured in the Manipal University Online Entrance Test 2012.

Thirteen new courses have been added to the curriculum for the next session. The total number of courses in the University now is 338 in 15 streams.

Eligibility Criteria:

For admission to any of the Integrated First Degree Programmes of BITS the candidate should have passed the 12th class examination of 10+2 system from a recognized Central or State board or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Further, the candidate should have obtained a minimum of 75% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects in 12th class examination, at least 60% marks in each of the Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects and adequate proficiency in English. Only Students who are appearing for 12th class examination in 2012 or who have passed the 12th class examination in 2011 are eligible to appear for BITSAT 2012.

If a candidate has taken more than one attempt in 12th class or its equivalent, only his latest performance is considered, provided this attempt has been for the full component of subjects/courses prescribed. Students who have passed 12th examination in 2010 or earlier are NOT eligible to appear in BITSAT-2012. Students who are presently studying in BITS at any of its campuses are not eligible to appear in BITSAT-2012

2 How to apply and what is the last date of applying for online exam ?


Through AIEEE website (http://aieee.nic.in). The last date is 31st December 2011.

3 Is online examination based on Internet?


No

4 When will online examination be conducted?


The planned scheduled is between 7th May to 26th May 2012

5 What will be the time of online examination ?


The exam will be twice a day I.e. in two shifts. One shift from 9.00 AM to 12.00 PM and another one from 2.00 PM to 5.00 PM

6 What computer knowledge is required to appear for Online examination (CBT Mode) ?

The candidate need to know only how to operate computer mouse. That is all required.

7 What are the advantages in opting for online mode of examination ?

You will get the flexibility in choosing the exam date (between 7th May and 26th May) of your choice as per your convenience.

You will also get the choice of your shift (9 AM to 12 PM / 2 PM to 5 PM) based on your convenience. It will make you feel confident on use of Information technology. You can also save upto Rs. 300 in Exam fees compare to Offline mode

Note: The flexibility of choosing date and shift will also depend on availability of seat on that particular day/shift. This option shell be made available in the month of January 2012.

Medium of examination is English and Hindi both. You can also switch medium as many times as you want during the examination as every question will apprear both in English and Hindi.

10 Can I get a examination center of my choice?


You can opt for city of your choice as per list of online exam cities at the time of filling application form only.

11 How secure is the Online examination?


It is very secure as human intervention is minimal

12 How can I practice for Online examination ?


You can practice free of cost throught webbased mock test which will be available on CBSE website soon. This will give you actual idea of the format of Online Exam (Computer Based Test I.e.CBT mode).

13 What will happen in case there is some problem in computer during the examination ?

There will be enough buffer systems available in the examination center to take care of such problems and time lost in change of system will be duly taken care as each and every second will be recorded by the server.

14 When will the result of Online examination be declared?

Combined result will be declared alongwith the offline examination candidates.

15 Will there be a question booklet like in offline examination?

In Online (CBT mode) exam the questions will appear on computer screen along with the answer options. Instruction page will also be displayed before the actual test begins.The time of reading of instructions will not be part of examination duration.

16 Will I get the paper of online examination as we get in Offline exam?


Yes, the paper will be mailed to you after the exam schedule is over.

20 Can I change my answer ?

Department of Chemistry is organizing the 23rd ‘CHEMIAD Competition’ (for F.Y.B.Sc. Students opting Chemistry as a subject) on 22nd January 2012. The aim of this competition is to create interest about Chemistry in young minds. We are receiving a huge response for this competition since past 22 years. Please note that this activity is entirely on voluntary basis. Scholarships For Pursuing Doctoral Programme Ph.D in Mathematics For The Academic Year 2012 - 2013

The National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) invites applications for the grant of scholarships to students for pursuing research for a Ph.D. degree in Mathematics

Eligibility: Applicants must be motivated B.A./B.Sc./B.Tech. /B.E./M.A./M.Sc. degree holders or final year students of these degree courses. They must have a good academic record (1st Class or equivalent grade in all years from +2 level to the present. B.Sc (Honors) students with second class may also apply.

The Scholarship: Successful candidates will be eligible to receive a scholarship amount of Rs. 16,000/- (Rs Sixteen thousand only) per month for the first and second year and Rs 18,000/- (Rs Eighteen thousands only) per month for subsequent years, a contingency grant of Rs. 20,000/- (Rs. Twenty thousand only) per year and house rent allowance as per central government norms wherever applicable. The scholarships are normally for a total period of four years, sanctioned for one year at a time and renewable at the end of the year, subject to satisfactory progress. An enhanced amount of scholarship may be offered after evaluation by the board at the end of the second year. If deemed fit, the scholarship may be extended to five years at the discretion of NBHM To avail of the scholarship the students have to enroll in an appropriate institution for a Ph.D. degree in mathematics. The scholarship will be paid through the institution they join.

How to Apply: Applications on plain paper should be made in the format given at the end of the advertisement and should be sent in duplicate along with a recent passport size photograph attached to each copy and a self-addressed envelope, affixed with a Rs.5/- postage stamp, to the address as given below for the appropriate zone in which the candidate wishes to appear for the written test. The envelope containing the application should be superscribed, “NBHM Ph. D. Scholarship”. Applications should NOT be sent to the NBHM office. A candidate may send separate applications independently to more than one zone. However, in general, applications will not be transferred from one zone to another. Names of two centres from the respective zone must be clearly indicated giving the order of preference. A centre of candidate’s choice will be allotted, as far as possible. If necessary, the zonal coordinator may sometimes allot some other centre close to the indicated alternatives.
