The Department of Statistics is organizing a workshop on “Applied Statistics using SPSS” for duration of 7 days from 14 November (Monday) to 20th November (Sunday) 2011 (from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. everyday) in Computer Laboratory (Ground Floor), Department of Statistics, Panjab University, Chandigarh.

This course shall be made available to faculty members/Research Scholars of Panjab University, PGIMER/GMCH doctors (having basic background in Statistics) and for the faculty members of the neighbouring institutes actively involved in research.

The applications on prescribed forms are invited for admission to M.Phil Programme (Museology and Heritage Studies) in the Centre for Studies in Museology, University of Jammu for the Academic session 2011-2012. It is a two term full time course including dissertation. Candidates having minimum of 55% in M.A Museology, History, Archaeology, History of Art, Conservation, Sociology, Anthropology, Geography, Botany, Geology, Zoology, MBA(HT), MBA, Buddhist Studies, Fine Arts, Environment Science, Chemistry, Fine Arts, languages , Law, etc, from the University of Jammu or any other University / Institution recognize d by UGC are eligible for admission. Out of total seats, 8% are reserved for SC/ST categories.

Applications complete in all respects and duly supported by relevant documents should reach the office of the Centre for Studies in Museology, 1st floor, General Zorawar Singh Auditorium Complex on or before 31st October, 2011 till 5 p.m.

Admission shall be based on Entrance Test which will consist of 1. Research Aptitude component (25 marks) and 2. Academic component (75 marks). The question paper on Research Aptitude will be descriptive in nature and will consist of five questions, candidates will be asked to attempt two question of 12 ½ marks each. The Academic component paper will consist of 50 multiple choice objective type questions, candidates will be asked to attempt all, each multiple choice question will be of 1 ½ marks each . The questions will be based on Museology, History, Heritage and allied subjects to check the candidate’s aptitude in Museology and Heritage.

THE MBE PROGRAMME


The course curriculum at MBE has been revised and the new Course has been offered from 2010. The new course combines a sound conceptual grounding in basic Economics, Finance and Marketing, with intensive training in quantitative techniques like Statistics and Econometrics.

THE MFC PROGRAMME


The main objective of the programme is to equip students with the requisite knowledge, skills and capabilities in financial planning, decision-making and control. Specifically, the course is aimed at: Familiarizing students with the financial and regulatory environment impinging upon financial decision making; Acquainting with the basic analytical tools and techniques of financial decision making; Providing an insight into the nature of accounting information and the techniques to use such information for financial planning and control; Developing an understanding of the conceptual framework for security analysis and portfolio management and their applications; Developing a basic understanding of issues involved in equity research and risk management; Imparting necessary skills for planning, appraisal and review of projects; Familiarizing with the issues involved in managing global financial services management and marketing thereof; Applying the methods and procedures of financial planning and decision making in different areas

MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS


The minimum eligibility requirements for MBE and MFC Programmes are: Graduate (under 10+2+3) in any discipline with at least 50% marks, from the University of Delhi or any other University recognised as equivalent thereto, with Mathematics / Business Mathematics at Class XII level. Students appearing in the final year of Bachelor’s Degree examination in 2012 can also apply.

Note: The selected candidates must submit their final year results of Graduation by September 15, 2012 or a date as will be specified the University of Delhi in this regard, failing which their admission will be automatically cancelled. Candidates must ensure that they satisfy the above eligibility conditions before applying. If, at any stage of the admission process, a candidate is found ineligible, his/her application will be cancelled immediately – no queries/clarifications shall be entertained in this regard. The Departments’ decision in this regard will be final.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

Selection of candidates would be based on CAT (Common Admission Test, conducted by the IIMs) and candidates educational backgrounds.

There are fifteen IITs at present, located in Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jodhpur, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Mandi, Mumbai, Patna, Ropar and Roorkee. Over the years IITs have created world class educational platforms dynamically sustained through internationally recognized research based on excellent infrastructural facilities. The faculty and alumni of IITs continue making huge impact in all sectors of society, both in India and abroad. Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (IT-BHU), Varanasi and Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad, are amongst the oldest institutions in India and are known for their immense contributions towards society at large and for science and technology in particular.

These institutions offer courses leading to Bachelor’s degree in a number of engineering, technological and scientific disciplines. Integrated M.Sc. courses in pure and applied sciences and Integrated M.Tech. courses in a few disciplines are also offered by some of these Institutions. In addition, some IITs offer Dual-Degree M.Tech. programmes, wherein both B.Tech. and M.Tech. degrees are awarded.

Credit-based academic programmes offer flexibility to students to progress at their own pace. A minimum level of performance is necessary for satisfactory progress. The medium of instruction is English.

Admission to the Undergraduate Programmes at these institutions for all Indian and Foreign nationals is made through a Joint Entrance Examination, IIT-JEE (formerly known as JEE).

Schedule of IIT-JEE 2012


The examination will be held on Sunday, April 8, 2012 as per the schedule given below:

Paper 1: 09.00 to 12.00 hrs (IST)

Paper 2: 14.00 to 17.00 hrs (IST)

The schedule will remain unaltered even if the above date is declared a public holiday.

To appear in IIT-JEE 2012, a candidate must have either passed the QE for the first time, on or after October 1, 2010 or appearing for the first time in 2012. Those who are going to appear in the QE later than September 30, 2012 are not eligible to appear in IIT-JEE 2012.

The year of passing the QE will be determined based on the examination he/she passed the earliest out of the qualifying examinations listed below. In case the applicant passed more than one QE or attempted successfully same QE more than once, the year of the first successful QE/attempt will be used to determine the eligibility for IIT-JEE 2012.

The qualifying examinations are listed below:


1. The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by any recognized central/ state Board, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi; Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi; etc.

2. Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a recognized Board/ University.

3. Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.

4. General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London / Cambridge / Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.

5. High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.

6. H.S.C. vocational examination.

7. Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.

8. A Diploma recognized by AICTE or a state board of technical education of at least 3 year duration.

9. Any Public School/Board/University examination in India or in any foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

Academic Council of Indira Gandhi National Open University in its 56th Meeting, held on 27th May 2011 has approved the following:

i) As a one time measure, old students of BED Programme belonging to 1999 and 2000 batches and the students from later batches, who missed the opportunity of Re-admission in left-over Course of BED, can avail Re-admission from July 2011 to January 2013 Cycles (Last TEE will be June 2013) after paying Pro-rata Fee @ Rs. 1600/- per Course.

ii) The students of BED who could not complete the programme during the maximum available period even after re-admission, shall not be eligible for re-admission. They need to seek a fresh admission as per the laid norms for a new applicant (appear in entrance exam and get merit position as per available number of seats). After completion of admissions as a fresh student, he/she will be permitted to apply for Credit Transfer from the old enrolment @ Rs. 100/- per completed course.

Ph.D Programme - Exam Fee for Special Elective (Direct Study)


The Ph.D. Research Scholars registered during January & July 2011 session who are doing their Course works (Core Course Regular) along with PG students and Special Elective (Direct Study) are requested to register the course works for examination and pay the fee for the current semester examination to be held during November/December 2011.

1. The Ph.D. Research scholars who are pursuing the course work (Regular) along with PG students are informed to register the course work for examination (Nov/Dec 2011) and to pay their examination fee (Rs. 300/- per subject) at their college where they are undergoing the course work. The Principal of the college is requested to send the collected fee in the form of DD drawn in favour of the “Controller of Examinations, Anna University of Technology Chennai” along with the duly filled in registration form (Form 11A) on or before 20.10.2011

2. The Ph.D. Research scholars who are pursuing the Special Elective (Direct Study) Course work are informed to submit the registration form (Form 11B) along with the examination fee of Rs. 300/- (Rupees Three hundred only) per subject to the Director, Centre for Research, Anna University of Technology, Tharamani, Chennai 600 113. The examination fee should be submitted in the form of DD favoring the ‘Director, Centre for Research, Anna University of Technology Chennai’. The last date for the submission of registration form and DD for Special Elective (Direct Study) course work examination is 30.10.2011. The Date of examination for Special Elective (Direct Study) should be fixed before 15.12.2011.

School of Communication Studies (SCS) , Panjab University, today launched the theme song and the video for its much awaited and celebrated media fest Soch 2011 at the conference hall of SCS. The media fest Soch 2011 is scheduled to be held from 2nd – 4th November 2011. Although the media fest is in its fifth year and has only grown bigger and better with each passing year , this is the first time that the students of the department have innovated the concept of launching the theme song and a promotional video for the fest. The song and the video are based on the theme ‘Get Guts Going’ which is the theme for the fest this year.

The video is an initiative to inspire and encourage the students to participate in the fest. A students’ initiative the video is directed and produced by Sukhjeet Singh from MMC(II) and features Vivek Saini , a student from MMC (I). The song has been written by Bhuvnesh Shrama and SabaNaaz Bali , students from the School of Communication Studies and composed by Ankur , a student from Department of Theology.

Doctoral Level Programme Fellow Programme in Management

The FPM is a doctoral program designed to develop and equip students for career opportunity in management education and research in the following faculty areas of specialization:

· Communication and Extension Management
· Ecosystem and Environment Management
· Environment and Developmental Economics

· Human Resource Management
· Information Technology and Quantitative Techniques

Objectives

The main objectives of the FPM are:


(i) To develop researchers and scholars in the field of management;

(ii) To create a body of knowledge; and

(iii) To stimulate research / action research work in Natural Resource Management.

Eligibility

Candidates must not be more than 45 year as on 1st July 2012 and must qualify the following eligibility tracks :

1. A Bachelors Degree with atleast 50 percent marks, and

2. Masters degree (minimum two years prescribed duration after 10+2+3 years of formal education) in relevant discipline (relevancy has to be decided by the IIFM) with at least 55% marks including Five year/Four year Integrated masters Degree programme and with good academic records.

Admission Announcement PGDFM 2012-14

Admission to the fully residential two year PGDFM is open to graduates from any discipline provided he/she fulfils the eligibility criteria and qualifies through the selection process.

Eligibility


Applicants should have at least a three-year bachelor’s degree in any discipline obtained through the 10+2+3 system or an equivalent qualification recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), with a minimum 50% aggregate marks (45% for SC/ST/DA) or equivalent CGPA.

Candidates appearing for the final year graduation examination are also eligible to apply provided they complete it before June 30, 2012 and fulfill the eligibility criteria as set by IIFM.

Admission Procedure

STEP-1: Common Admission Test (CAT)

All applicants desirous of seeking admission in PGDFM at IIFM have to appear for Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by Indian Institute of Management (IIMs), by responding to their notification published in leading national dailies. IIFM will use the CAT score for short-listing the candidates for two year full time post graduate programme. IIMs have no role either in the selection process or in the conduct of the programme.

STEP-2: IIFM Application Form:


In addition to CAT, the candidate should also fill-up a separate form for admission to PGDFM, which is available from IIFM Bhopal. The cost of IIFM application form is Rs. 900/- (450/- for SC/ ST) payable at Bhopal. This can be obtained either personally or by post. The application form can also be downloaded from our website and in that case, the completed application form should accompany the Demand Draft of the specified amount drawn in favour of “Director, Indian Institute of Forest Management” payable at Bhopal.

Filled in application form, complete in all respect including the CAT registration number (which will be available on CAT vouchers issued by IIM) should reach IIFM Bhopal on or before 12th December 2011. Applicant should attach the photocopy of CAT voucher along with IIFM application form.

STEP-3: Group Discussion/Interview:

Candidates short listed on the basis of CAT score, will be called for Group Discussion and Interview at IIFM, Bhopal or Institute of Wood Science & Technology (IWST) Bangalore during February/March 2012 based on the choice of candidates, as mentioned in the Application Form.
