Independence Day Celebrations

Greetings, Guard of Honour, Patriotic Songs, dances, theatrical performances, tree plantations at the South Campus, emphasis on participatory management and sumptuous breakfast formed part of Independence Day celebrations at Panjab University Campus here today. Prof. R.C. Sobti, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University hoisted the national flag.

Addressing the large gathering of University officials, faculty members, students and participants from Ankur School and Guru Gobind Singh Vidya Mandir, Ratwara Sahib in the cultural activities and their family members, Prof. R.C. Sobti, the Vice-Chancellor, highlighted the sacred significance of the Independence Day, "We are celebrating the 64th Independence Day here only because of the great sacrifices made by our freedom fighters, men, women and children in different phases of our freedom struggle. As an emerging developed nation, we should continue to practice the values of self-service, sacrifice, fearlessness, truth, compassion and non-violence which inspired our great leaders as well as the masses of India during our freedom struggle".

Professor Sobti also added that Panjab University, Chandigarh is one of the pioneering institutions of higher education and research in India and has been enlisted by the Govt. of India as one of the eminent institutions with sufficient potential for excellence in all fields of knowledge and research. As a leading University of the nation, it is our bounden duty to provide quality education and produce the enlightened citizens for the future work of the nation. As the Govt. of India has decided to launch 1500 new universities in the next decade, Panjab University will try its utmost to produce the excellent academics, administrators and leaders equipped with ethical values to take up the different important responsibilities in the new and expanding horizon of the education".
