This course is being conducted in collaboration with the Computer Science Deptt. of National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research, Chandigarh for the benefit of teaching faculty in AICTE approved technical institutions.
ABOUT THE COURSE
The open access, open source software, and open standards concepts have been garnering increased attention in the field of technical education and elsewhere. These benefits of open access, open source, and open standards are numerous. The benefits include lower costs, great accessibility, and better prospects for long-term preservation of scholarly works. Technical Education should embrace all three of these concepts now and in the future. The availability of original source code makes it easy to resolve many problems, and become independent of anyone specific vendors, programmers and suppliers. A new software movement based chiefly on free, open access to the source code of software is showing its tremendous power to fortify user sovereignty in the computing/ Internet marketplace. With open Source Software, we can enhance the software ourselves if we think the features are not exactly what we need. The following topics are planned to be covered:-
1. Introduction to Linux
2. Installation and configuration of Linux, boot process
3. Shell commands, Policies, N/w Setup
