The minimum eligibility for admission is (i) 10+2 or equivalent from a recognized board/University with Mathematics as a subject of examination with at least 50% aggregate marks or (ii) 10+3 Diploma (Any stream) recognized by Central/State Government with 50% aggregate marks or (iii) International Baccalaureate Diploma after 10 years of schooling with not less than 50% marks in aggregate and with Mathematics as compulsory subject of examination.

Admission to MBA and MCA Courses in Karnataka for the year 2009-2010


Pursuant to the issue of Government Notification No. ED 38 TEC 2009 for Admission to MBA/MCA for the year 2009, the Karnataka PGCET – 2009 is being conducted under the supervision of Central Post Graduate Admission Committee (CPAC) for the purpose of determining the merit of both Karnataka and Non-Karnataka Candidates for admission to the First year, First semester of full time (2 years) and part time (3 years) Master of Business Administration (MBA), full time (2 years) MBA (Infrastructure Management) and full time (3 years) Master of Computer Applications (MCA) courses, in University Departments and institutions affiliated to the following Universities- Bangalore, Gulbarga, Karnatak, Kuvempu, Mangalore, Mysore, Tumkur, Karnataka State Women’s University and Visvesvaraya Technological University, within the State of Karnataka for the academic year 2009-2010. However, the Non-Karnataka candidates appearing for PGCET - 2009 are eligible for those seats available against the management quota of private professional institutions, in such cases where the institutions have surrendered their quota of seats to CPAC.

Academic Eligibility:

MBA (FT/ PT):
Admission to MBA course shall be open for the candidates who have passed the Bachelor degree with not less than fifty percent i.e. integer 50% (rounding-off of aggregate percent is not permitted) of the marks in the aggregate of all the years of the degree examinations. However, in the case of candidates from Karnataka belonging to SC / ST and Category I, the aggregate percent of marks of all the years of the qualifying examination shall not be less than forty five percent i.e. integer 45% (rounding -off of aggregate percent is not permitted).

The candidates applying for part-time course in MBA must have worked for not less than three years (after the qualifying examination and experience is considered up to date of Notification) in an establishment and must be working in an organization within a radial distance of 40 km from the institution in which the candidate seeks admission.

MBA-Infrastructure Management (FT) : Admission to MBA-Infrastructure Management course shall be open for the candidates who have passed the Bachelor degree in Engineering /Architecture with not less than fifty percent i.e. integer 50% (rounding -off of aggregate percent is not permitted) of the marks in the aggregate of all the years of the degree examinations. However, in the case of candidates from Karnataka belonging to SC / ST and Category I, the aggregate percent of marks of all the years of the qualifying examination shall not be less than forty five percent i.e. integer 45% (rounding -off of aggregate percent is not permitted).

MCA (FT) : Admission to MCA course shall be open for the candidates who have passed Bachelor degree with not less than fifty percent i.e. integer 50% (rounding-off of aggregate percent is not permitted) of marks in the aggregate of all the years of the degree examinations with Mathematics or Statistics or Computer Science or Computer Programming or Computer Applications or Business Mathematics or Business Statistics as one of the optional or elective at Degree Level. Provided further that a candidate who has studied and passed one of the subjects specified in the first proviso in the Pre-University Course with 50 % of marks in that subject shall also be considered for admission. However in the case of candidates from Karnataka belonging to SC / ST and Cat-I, forty five percent i.e. integer 45% (rounding -off of aggregate percent is not permitted) of marks in that subject shall be considered for Admission.

Admission procedure: 1)
The written test will be conducted for MBA course between 10.30 AM to 12.30 PM and for MCA course between 2.00 PM to 4.00 PM on 12-7-2009 (Sunday) at various centers as specified in Brochure supplied with the application form. 2) For both Karnataka & Non-Karnataka Students admission will be based solely on performance in written test (PGCET), then followed by counseling for seat selection as per merit.

Note:

Minimum 55% aggregate marks in the qualifying degree and Mathematics at +2 level is a must.

If the seats remain vacant after admitting students with valid GATE score, then admission for vacant seats shall be made on the basis of marks obtained in qualifying degree subject to securing of minimum 55% marks.

Due to uncertainty prevailing in some parts of Punjab, the Joint Entrance Test 2009 (JET) which was scheduled on 30.05.2009 (Saturday) in various examination centers in Punjab and Chandigarh has been postponed to 6th June 2009 (Saturday). The test will be held in the same examination centres as conveyed to the candidates in Roll no. Admit Cards already issued by the Board. The University invites applications for admission to Master of Business Administration (Banking & Finance)-July 2009 Cycle. The Prospectus which is already on sale, can be obtained from any of the Regional Centres listed below or Registrar (SRD), Maidan Garhi, New Delhi - 110 068, on payment of Rs.500/- in cash or Rs.550/- through Demand Draft for sending by post. Candidate should be a member of Indian Institute of Bankers, should have passed the CAIIB examination and should be a Graduate working in the Banking or Financial Services Sector for at least two years. The last date for submission of the application form for MBA (B&F) at Regional Centre is 31-05-2009. Eligibility Criteria


Admission to BITS, Pilani - Dubai (BPD) is based entirely on the candidates merit, his/her preferences, facilities available and availability of seats in the discipline preferred. The merit position of the candidate for admission will be based only on the overall aggregate secured by the candidate in the Qualifying Examination and not based on any entrance test. While the Dubai Campus has been set-up, specially to cater to the educational requirements of the residents of the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) countries, candidates from other countries are also eligible to apply. Admissions are open to all nationalities B.E. (Hons.) Biotechnology

Eligibility Criteria for Admission


Candidates must have passed the requisite Qualifying Examination, which is the General Secondary Education Certificate Examination of Ministry of Education, UAE or Senior School Certificate Examination of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi, India, or its equivalent from any recognized State, National or International boards with a minimum 60% overall aggregate* of marks.

For all programmes, candidates must have studied and passed Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects in their Qualifying Examination and must have a minimum aggregate of 60% in Physics, Chemistry & Maths subjects. If instead of marks any letter grades or GPA are awarded (or any other form of evaluation), their equivalences in marks will be decided by BITS, Pilani- Dubai.

Since English is the medium of instruction at BPD, good proficiency in English is essential for admission. Hence candidates who have completed their qualifying examination from Non-English medium schools must have secured a TOEFL Score of 500 in paper based test or 61 in internet based test or have an IELTS Score of 5. If necessary, they will also be assessed by an institute committee for English comprehension.

* Aggregate:
Aggregate is the total marks of all subjects in the Qualifying Examination, considered essential by the Board / University for passing the examination. The Aggregate must compulsorily contain the required subjects, namely, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The Candidate's position in the merit list will be based only on this aggregate marks secured by him/her.

There will be 100 questions of multiple choice type. All questions are compulsory and carry 1 mark each. No negative marking. Non programmable calculator is allowed.

Optics and Lasers

Interference : Concept of coherence, Spatial and Temporal coherences, Coherence time, Coherence length, Area of Coherence. Conditions for observing interference fringes. Interference of light by wave front division and amplitude division. Michelson’s interferometer-working, rinciple and nature of fringes. Interference in thin films. Role of interference in anti-reflection and high reflection dielectric coatings, Multiple beam interference, Fabry-Perot interferometer. Nature of fringes.

Diffraction : Huygens-Fresnel theory, half-period zones, Zone plates. Distinction between Frensel and Fraunhofer diffraction. Fraunhofer diffraction at rectangular and circular apertures. Effects of diffraction in optical imaging, resolving power of telescope. The diffraction grating, its use as a spectroscopic element and its resolving power.

Polarization :

Formalism of Wave Mechanics : Brief introduction to need and development of quantum mechanics, Wave-particle duality, de-Broglie hypothesis.
