The Aditya Birla Scholars 2008-2009

The Tenth Aditya Birla Group Scholarship event took place on 27 September 2008 at the Ballroom, Taj Mahal Palace & Towers, Mumbai.

The top 20 students were invited from each of the premier institutes the - the IIMs, the IITs and BITS Pilani. Forty six candidates were shortlisted in Mumbai on the 27th September 2008, by an eminent jury. The jury selected the 21 'Aditya Birla Scholars', who we hope, will become future global leaders and do our country proud.

At NIPER, Rae Bareli from the current academic session (2008-09). The courses will be held at the temporary location of ITI Ltd., Rae Bareli by Mentor Institute i.e CENTRAL DRUG RESEARCH INSTITUTE, LUCKNOW

Admission to the Master Programmes with monthly fellowship of Rs. 5000/- for these will take place through a Counselling to be held at NIPER, Setor - 67, S.A.S Nagar, (Mohali) Punjab on 15th (Wednesday) October, 2008 at 10.00 am on the basis of merit list of the entrance examination conducted on June 8, 2008 and notified by NIPER, SAS Nagar on website: www.niper.gov.in Details about these Masters Programmes, distribution of seats, fees etc., to be paid by Demand Draft favouring Director, NIPER, payable at Mohali / Chandigarh, may be seen on the website of NIPER, SAS Nagar (Mohali). The Programme: The MBA programme (two year residential) offers dual specialization in Finance, Marketing, OB & HR, IT, International Business and Operations Management. Admission Process: The prospective candidates are required to take the Common Admission Test (CAT) to be conducted by IIMs on November 16, 2008. Seventh CSIR Diamond Jubilee Invention Award (CDJIA) for School Children - 2008

Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) is the premier Industrial R&D Organisation in India. On the occasion of its Diamond Jubilee in 2002, CSIR initiated Invention Awards for school children to create awareness, interest and motivation for Intellectual Property amongst children.

On the occasion of the World Intellectual Property Day which is celebrated through out the world on 26th April, CSIR invites applications for the ‘Seventh CSIR Diamond Jubilee Invention Award (CDJIA) for School Children-2008’. The first prize winner would also become eligible for WIPO’s Young Inventor’s Award carrying a medal and a certificate.

Applicant must provide the details of the invention submitted for the award in not more than 5000 words in English/Hindi including an abstract (in not more than 100 words), authenticated (by giving seal and date) and sent through the Principal/ Head of the School where the student is enrolled and personal details on a separate page as follows: Name, date of birth, school and residential address, class, telephone no. (residence/school), e-mail address.

In case of proposals already selected for state, national, international or equivalent awards, only the subject matter covering the improvements need to be submitted for consideration of CDJIA-2008. Published inventions would be considered as per the provisions of the Patent Act.

The applications for the award not exceeding 5000 words in English/Hindi with requisite drawings will be considered. The write-up must describe the subject matter in a problem-solution mode and highlighting the novel and non obviousness feature of the invention and its advantages. Any Indian student enrolled in an Indian school below the age of 18 years as on 31st July 2008 can apply.

The invention submitted should be one that is globally novel, non-obvious and utilitarian. It could be a new concept or idea or a solution to an existing problem or completely a new method/ process/ device/ utility. It is not essential/ necessary that the invention should have been worked, only the concept of the invention should have been proved through a model, a prototype or experimental data. Details of any assistance/ guidance provided by teachers/parents/friends or others must be appropriately mentioned and acknowledged.

Typed applications to be sent by Registered Post/Courier to: Head, Intellectual Property Management Division, CSIR, NISCAIR Building, 14 Satsang Vihar Marg, Special Institutional Area, New Delhi - 110 067 with the envelope marked on top left hand corner 'CDJIA-2008'. You may also send application through addressed to head.ipmd@niscair.res.in. However, a hard copy should also follow through post with Principal’s authentication.

Applications received on or before 31st October 2008 will be considered for the Award.

Prizes :

There are in all 60 prizes. Besides a certificate, the cash awards are:

First Prize (1 No.) Rs. 50,000/-
Second Prize (2 Nos.) Rs. 25,000/- each
Third Prize (3 Nos.) Rs. 15,000/- each
Fourth Prize (4 Nos.) Rs. 10,000/- each
Fifth Prize (50 nos.) Rs. 5,000/- each

The awardees will be selected by a high level Awards Selection Committee. If required, the short listed candidates may be called for Interview at Delhi or at any other appropriate place. The decision of the Awards Selection Committee / CSIR will be final and binding on the applicants and no enquiries/ correspondence in this regard will be entertained.

The Awards will be announced on January 1,2009, at New Delhi and would be communicated to the Awardees only.

The research groups are supported by several high quality resource centers e.g. High Performance Computing facilities, Center for Materials Characterization, Central NMR facility, Catalyst Pilot Plant, Combi-chem-bio Resource Center and Digital Information Resource Center.

NCL has an active research program leading to Ph.D. degree in all the above mentioned areas. It provides a stimulating atmosphere, which fosters creativity and encourages innovative thinking and research. Various awards including travel grant to attend conferences abroad are provided to Ph.D. students. Additional incentives will be available for interdisciplinary research.

Applications are invited from candidates who are holding M.Sc. degree or equivalent
in all branches of Science and have qualified in CSIR-NET under CSIR/UGC fellowship scheme or DBT/ICMR JRF examination scheme or BioInformatics National Certification (BINC) Examination, for admission to the Ph.D. programme. Selection for admission to the Ph.D. programme will be done on the basis of an interview to he held at NCL in broad disciplines of Organic Chemistry, Catalysis, Life Sciences, Physical & Theoretical Chemistry, Materials Chemistry, Polymer Science and Chemical Engineering. The number of students to be selected in each of the above disciplines will depend on the vacancies that will exist for each of the disciplines. A candidate may choose to be considered in any three of the above disciplines. The candidates will be interviewed separately in each of the disciplines of his/her choice. Separate merit list will be prepared in each of the above disciplines.

Tenure:

The selected JRFs will be eligible for a stipend of Rs.12,000/- p.m. + House Rent Allowance (HRA) as admissible under rules and a Contingency grant of Rs.20,000/- per annum. On completion of two years, JRFs could be upgraded to Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) on assessment which will enable them to get Rs.14,000/- p.m. The total tenure including the fellowship period shall not exceed 5 years.

Eligibility:

The candidate should have qualified in NET examination held on June, 2008 under CSIR/UGC category or should have valid award letter under the above or should have qualified under DBT/ICMR JRF examination scheme or BioInformatics National Certification (BINC) Examination.

Please note that the candidates, who fulfill the above criteria of eligibility, may directly appear for the interview at NCL on Thursday, 27th November, 2008 and Friday, 28th November, 2008. However, submission of application form is mandatory. Merit list for different disciplines will be announced after the interviews i.e. on 28th November, 2008 itself. We are arranging presentation by research guides to facilitate choice of guides by students. You may consider staying back in Pune for two to three days more after the interview, so that in the event of your selection, you may complete the counseling and selection of research guides. In case it is not possible for you to stay back, your placement will be made as per the option of research guides to be exercised by you during the interview. Kindly note that no TA/DA, will be paid to you for attending the interview and completing the counseling and that NO further communication e.g. call letter will be issued for interview, separately. Please also note that the candidates, who have passed NET examination under Lecturer category are NOT eligible.
