CHALLENGING OPPORTUNITY FOR BE/B.TECH GRADUATES IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING


The Indian space programme was institutionalized in 1969 with the formation of Indian Space Research Organisation [ISRO]. Indian space programme is aimed at promoting the development and application of space science and technology for the socio-economic benefit of the country and also providing valuable service to the Nation in a self reliant manner. India has achieved self-reliance in both Spacecraft and Satellite Launch Vehicle Programmes with the operationalisation of Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle [PSLV] for launching remote sensing satellites in polar orbits and Geo-synchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle [GSLV] for launching communication and meteorological satellites in Geosynchronous transfer orbits. Two major operational space systems have been established - the Indian National Satellite [INSAT] for telecommunication, television broadcasting, meteorological services and developmental education etc and the Indian Remote Sensing Satellites for resources monitoring and management. The space programme has made a multi-quantum forward leap, making India a major self-reliant space power.

The future ISRO programme envisages development of cutting edge technologies for reusable launch vehicle, development of advanced technologies for manned mission, advanced high efficiency semi-cryogenic propulsion system, advanced communication satellite, satellite based navigation system, hyper spectral imaging sensors, and inter planetary missions. ISRO has a strong base in space science too and the first Indian scientific mission to the Moon and advanced Astronomical Satellite are slated for launch in the near future.

Challenging opportunities exist at ISRO to undertake development of innovative technologies and establish the advanced infrastructure needed for space exploration and beyond.

ISRO offers the position of Scientist/Engineer `SC' in the pay band of Rs.15600-39100/- + 5400 (Grade Pay) to the young graduates with BE/B.Tech or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.

Eligibility:

BE/B.Tech or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering in First Class with an aggregate minimum of 65% (average of all semesters).Those who have completed the Degree are only eligible to apply as the selected candidates are required to join ISRO during February 2009.

Age Limit:


* 35 years as on 17-11-2008 (40 years in case of SC/ST candidates and 38 years for OBC candidates, Ex-serviceman and Persons with Disabilities[PWD] are eligible for age relaxation as per Govt. of India orders).

For PWD persons, orders on reservation to the extent applicable will be extended for the above posts.

How to apply :


* The application for on-line registration will be hosted in the ISRO web-site between 28-10-2008 and 17-11-2008. Candidates may visit our web-site at www.isro.gov.in to register their applications on-line between 28-10-2008 and 17-11-2008. Applications will be received on-line only. Upon registration, applicants will be provided with an on-line Registration Number, which should be carefully preserved for future reference. E-mail ID of the applicant will have to be given in the application compulsorily.

* The on-line application has to be invariably followed-up with a `No Objection Certificate' from the employer concerned, by those already in employment under Central/State Government, Public Sector Undertakings or Autonomous Bodies, duly indicating the name and Reg. No. on the reverse.

* There will be an Application Fee of Rs.100/- (Rupees One Hundred Only) for each application. Demand Draft details need to be filled-in at the time of on-line registration. The candidate before filing his/her application has to take a DD for Rs.100/- from any of the Nationalized Bank in favour of the Sr. Accounts Officer, ISRO HQ, Bangalore, payable at Bangalore.

* The Applicant should enter the DD Number, date and name of the Bank in the space provided for the same in the web application. After filing the application, on-line, the applicant has to send the DD with his/her Full Name (as entered in web), Post Number and Registration No. written on the reverse of the DD to Administrative Officer (ICRB), ISRO Headquarters, Antariksh Bhavan, New BEL Road, Bangalore - 560231 by ordinary post superscribing on the envelope "ISRO RECRUITMENT-SCIENTIST/ENGINEER 'SC'".

* Please note that applications, in respect of which DDs have not been received with Name as mentioned in the application and Registration Number on the reverse, will not be considered.

* Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Persons with Disabilities (PWD) candidates are exempted from Application Fee. However, SC/ST and PWD candidates will have to send attested Caste Certificate and Medical Certificate of Board respectively by post to Administrative Officer (ICRB) duly indicating the Name, Post No. and Reg.No. on the reverse. Applications of candidates claiming SC/ST/PWD status and therefore exemption from Application Fee will be considered only if the duly attested Caste Certificate/Medical Certificate is received. The DD/Caste Certificate/Medical Certificate and `No Objection Certificate' in respect of candidates employed under Central/State Govt/PSU/Autonomous Body should reach ISRO Headquarters, Bangalore within seven days of filing the applications by the candidates and in any case not later than 24-11-2008.

Selection Process:

The qualification prescribed is the minimum requirement and the same does not automatically make candidates eligible for written test. The candidate should have First Class with minimum 65% marks in the Qualifying Degree ie, BE/B.Tech or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering. Based on bio-data, initial screening will be conducted to short-list candidates for taking-up written test. The written test will be conducted on 28/12/2008 at ten venues viz., New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Guwahati, Bhopal, Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Thiruvananthapuram. Candidates short-listed based on the performance in the written test will be called for interview, the schedule and venue of which will be intimated. Candidates attending the interview will be reimbursed to and fro second-class train fare by the shortest route from the address given in the application to the place of interview.

Pay and Allowances:

Selected candidates will be appointed as Scientist/ Engineer 'SC' in the pay band of Rs. 15600-39100 + 5400 (Grade Pay). The gross emoluments in the minimum of scale will at present be approximately Rs.24,360/- p.m. In addition, HRA and Transport Allowance at the prescribed rates in force at the place of posting will be paid for those who are not availing Departmental Housing and Transport facility. The employees will be governed by the New Pension Scheme. ISRO provides attractive benefits to its employees such as medical facilities for self and dependants, subsidized canteen, free transport [or in lieu transport allowance], limited housing facility for fresh entrants [or in lieu HRA], advances for purchase of conveyance, construction of house, Leave Travel Concession, Group Insurance etc.

Other Conditions/Instructions:

* The posts are temporary, but likely to continue.

Final Selection will be based on the performance in the CAT / GMAT followed by group discussion and personal interview.

Application Fee: The Prospectus and Application are available on cash of Rs. 1500/- from AIM counter and by post on sending Demand Draft of Rs. 1550/- or by downloading from official website. Foreign / NRI applicant can obtain Application Form and Prospectus by sending a Demand Draft of either US $50/- or Rs. 2300/- or on cash payment of Rs. 2,250/- at AIM counter. The demand draft should be in favour of "Asia-Pacific Institute of Management" payable at New Delhi. The choice of programme should be written clearly on the envelope enclosing the Demand Draft. Prospectus once sold will note be taken back.

Eligibility: Minimum of 3 year Bachelor's degree or equivalent in any discipline recognized by the Association of Indian Universities / AICTE are eligible for Post Graduate Studies in Management. Candidates meeting all requirements, for obtaining the Bachelor's degree by 30th June 2009 may also apply subject to furnishing evidence to that latest by 1st October, 2009

The All India Common Entrance Examination (OPENNET) is likely to be conducted by the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) on 30th November 2008 for admission to the Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) Course leading to B.Sc (Nautical Science) in collaboration of Directorate General of Shipping (DGS). Exact dates shall be indicated in the advertisement issued by IGNOU. The shipping Corporation of India Ltd. (SCI), proposes to select around 80 TNOCs for February 2009 batch from amongst the candidates qualified in the IGNOU OPENNET Examination and eligible for the Pre Sea Training Courses at Maritime Training Institute, Mumbai, [ID Code: 1640 P] for the February 2009 batch.

The DNS Course February 2009 Prospectus and Application Form shall be available from the various regional IGNOU offices and also their website www.ignou.ac.in

Cell and developmental Biology are dynamic disciplines that drive research in many exciting areas of modern biology: for instance, fundamental mechanisms of growth and development, Stem Cell Biology, understanding disease mechanism and therapy. In this course researchers from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) and Temasek Life Science (TLL), Singapore plan to take the participant on a tour of the exciting world of cell and developmental biology and discuss the emerging areas of research and development.

The teaching format would include popular talks on emerging areas of cell and developmental biology, talks on techniques used in these areas of research, interactive sessions with the participants, films and video shows, and, finally, lab tours.

IIT Rajasthan

Indian Institute of Technology Rajasthan

IIT Rajasthan is one among the new set of IITs announced by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. The location of the IIT in Rajasthan will be announced by the Govt. of India after completion of the formalities of land acquisition for setting up the new IIT in Rajasthan. However, in the meantime, IIT Kanpur has been designated as the mentor IIT for looking after the incubation activities of the new IIT in Rajasthan.

The academic session in IIT Rajasthan will commence from August 2008. To start with, a 4-year B.Tech. programme will be offered in three branches, viz., Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering with a strength of 40 students in each branch. The curriculum, course structure and syllabus for the first year courses and the fee structure and other rules will be broadly same as in the mentor IIT i.e IIT Kanpur. The first year classes are proposed to be held at the IIT Kanpur campus and the students admitted will be relocated to the place in Rajasthan where the new IIT will be established. The students and the parents taking admission in the new IIT Rajasthan will be required to give an undertaking to this effect.

Call for Indian management research proposals

This year, Emerald and the All India Management Association (AIMA) are delighted to offer a research grant for an Indian project in the field of management research. The award will offer £3,000 (US$5,900 equivalent) to fund the winning research project. Applications should address the dissemination of knowledge for the social good with a specific orientation towards benefit for India.

Eligibility: At least one member of the research team must be based in India.

Judging criteria: Each application will be judged, by a panel of experts, on the criteria below. The research must:

• Be of significance and, in particular, illustrate how it will benefit the social good.
• Demonstrate originality and innovation.
• Make an outstanding contribution to theory and its application.
• Illustrate the appropriateness and application of the methodology.
• Demonstrate sound implications for theory and practice.

The following documents will be required electronically:

• A summary stating specific goals, outcomes and benefits of the research. This should not exceed 2,000 words (note that tables, figures, appendices and reference lists, if provided, do not count as part of the 2,000 word total).

• A covering letter containing full contact details (affiliation, full address, telephone number/s and e-mail address) for all researchers involved in the project. Please state clearly which researcher will be the main point of contact.

The 2,000-word summary must:

• Display clearly a statement of purpose and intent.

• State expected research outcomes and expected impact and possible application.
• Specify the expected timescales of the research process.
• Outline projected costs and total research grant required.
