DISASTER MANAGEMENT COURSE AT PU

Panjab University has introduced a new Masters Degree course on Disaster Management from the current academic session.

The course having 22 seats along with 2 seats earmarked for candidates sponsored by the government/institution has been introduced on the direction of University Grants Commission, New Delhi. The department of Geography has been given the responsibility to run this course.

The hallmarks of the course designed include an adequate focus on professional ingredients including two months compulsory internship in the third semester and use of latest remote sensing and GIS technology in mitigation and management of disasters and vulnerability analysis. There is great enthusiasm among students applying for the course. Department is handling daily a large number of queries about this course.

The last date for applying to this course is July 1, 2008.


A large number of applications have already been received in the department. Admission to course is based combined performance in academic record and admission test/interview, to be conducted by the department on July 9, 2008 according to Dr. Surya Kant, Chairperson of the Department.
