Panjab University is starting a new Post-graduate(MA)Course in Community Education and Development in the newly established Department of Community Education and Development from the current academic session (2008-09). This is an interdisciplinary course which would enable the students to understand the issues pertaining to community development at the national as well as at the global level. The basic idea behind this course is to make the students aware about the different facets of community life, theoretically as well as practically.

Community Education and development as an independent discipline evolves from the realms of education and social sciences that caters to the socially marginalized, poor, deprived and disadvantaged sections through experts trained for the purpose. Imparting training and building human resources is the need of the hour for the over- all development of the society by having partnership with state, civil society, national and international organizations etc. in an effort to bring all sections of society (National as well as global) under the umbrella of community education and development.

Within this perspective the department undertakes two year Masters Degree course in Community Education and Development which includes Education, Practice and Community Services for preparing the students to work with individuals, regional, national and international institutions like the SAARC countries, United Nations, World governments, multinational companies, families, groups and communities in a different community settings. This course intends to instill a sense of commitment and dedication among students towards Community Education and Development by addressing its various problems. The vision of the course lies in the ethos of community learning, concerns and context. It is intended to develop potential among the takers of this course to get employment at the national as well as global level in educational institutions as counselors, facilitators in government and non-government organizations, public health educators, advocacy, human rights and institutions (National & International) devoted to the upliftment of the community.

Eligibility:

Students having graduation degree in any stream with 50% marks (45% in case of SC/ST/OBC are eligible to take admission in this course.

5. Ph.D. Programmes:

The Institute is a recognized center for research in Education and other disciplinary areas. There is no provision for scholarship offered by the Institute. Candidates who are interested in pursuing doctoral research may send their request to The Principal, RIE, Mysore for procuring the prescribed application form. The last date for submission of completed application is 20th August 2008.

* B.El.Ed. will be offered subject to the approval of the University of Mysore.

Admissions to these programmes except M.Sc.Ed. are restricted to candidates having domicile of the States of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and the Union Territories of Pondicherry and Lakshadweep, as per the quota earmarked for each State and UT. Admission to M.Sc.Ed. is on All India basis. Applicants should submit “Certificate of Domicile/ Community / Nativity Certificate” issued by the competent authority from respective State/UT along with their application form. For the children of Defence Personnel, the domicile is considered on the basis of the place of location of the State Board/ CBSE/ College/ University from where they pass their qualifying examinations. Medium of instruction for all the programmes is English.

HOW TO APPLY:

Separate application is required for each programme/combination of subjects mentioned in the table. However, candidates for M.Sc.Ed. programme can apply for only one elective (Physics or Chemistry or Mathematics). Requisition for application form should be accompanied by a crossed Demand Draft only, payable at Mysore for Rs.150/- (Rupees one hundred and fifty only) for each application, drawn in favour of the Principal, Regional Institute of Education, Mysore 570006 along with a self-addressed 26cm × 12cm size envelope bearing Rs.10/- postal stamp, mentioning clearly the name of the programme on the top of the envelope, to be sent to the Assistant Programme Coordinator (Academic Section), Regional Institute of Education, Mysore 570006. Payment will not be accepted in the form of Money Order or Cash or
Postal Orders.

The duly filled in application form along with enclosures should be sent to the Assistant Programme Coordinator (Academic Section), Regional Institute of Education, Mysore 570006 before the stipulated date. WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY (OPEN HOUSE 26th May to 7th June, 2008)

Coming June 5 is World Environment Day. Instead of having just a day of Earth & Environment activities, the Geology Department Panjab University invites the citizens of the city and adjoining areas to visit its Museum of Natural History from 26th May (Monday) to 7th June (Saturday) barring Sunday when PU are closed.

Within changed working hours, 8 am to 2 pm the museum would to open to all. It is the biggest and best in NW India and built with the efforts of generations of geologists over last 50 years, has rare collections of minerals, rocks, fossils from all over the country and several parts of the world. The recent discoveries of Dinosaurian fossil eggs and bones housed in the museum would especially attract the young school kids having their summer vacations.

From 8.30 am to 11.30 am everyday there would also be free screening of Earth, Environment, Wild Life Films in the Seminar Room of the Department for our guests. The films include productions supported bv British Council. BBC Film on Dinosaurs Dynasty and US Geologists' Research in Hawaii Volcanoes and German TV Film on Ladakh.

Panjab University want to specially invite
the children and families of PU staff who have in routine missed out the excitement available in plenty in our wonderful premises. .

Panjab University appeal to citizens
to come walking or cycling with earth and environment friendly posters in hand and dressed up in green or with T-Shirts painted to inspire environmental education and conservation.

Biological Sciences: Candidates should have passed the 12th examination of 10+2 system from a recognized Central or State board or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics and adequate proficiency in English.

(ii) For admission to B.Pharm.(Hons.) and M.Sc.(Hons.): Biological Sciences programmes: Candidates should have passed the 12th examination of 10+2 system from a recognized Central or State board or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology or Mathematics and adequate proficiency in English. Candidates having both Mathematics and Biology in 10+2 have to decide whether they wish to appear in Mathematics or Biology subjects in BITSAT-2008.

Admission to all the programmes is subject to the conditions given below:-
The candidate should have obtained a minimum of aggregate 80% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects (if he/she has taken Mathematics in BITSAT) or a minimum of aggregate 80% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects (if he/she has taken Biology in BITSAT) subjects in 12th examination, with at least 60% marks in each of the Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics / Biology subjects.

Students who are appearing for 12th examination in 2008 or who have passed 12th Examination in 2007 only are eligible to appear in the BITSAT-2008 test. Students who have passed 12th examination in 2006 or earlier are NOT eligible to appear in BITSAT-2008. Students who are presently studying in BITS at any of its campuses are not eligible to appear in BITSAT test.

Admissions will be made purely on merit. The merit position of the candidate for admission will be based on the score obtained by the candidate in the BITSAT-2008.

In addition to the application made earlier for registering in BITSAT-2008, interested and eligible candidates should apply for admission as per the procedure given below. Only those candidates who have passed their 12th year examination in 2008 or 2007 and have appeared in BITSAT-2008 will be included in the merit list for admission. Students who have passed 12th examination in 2006 or earlier are NOT eligible to apply.

Direct Admission of Board toppers:
First rank students of all the central and state boards in India and who have taken Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in their 12th examination will be given direct admission to the program of their choice, irrespective of their BITSAT-2008 score. Board toppers who have taken Physics, Chemistry and Biology in their 12th examination are eligible for direct admissions to B.Pharm (Hons) and M.Sc. (Hons) Biological Sciences programmes only. However, they should have obtained the minimum marks in PCM/PCB subject in 12th examination, as described above. 3. Distinctive Feature of the Educational Structure And Some Special Provisions

(a) All students who have taken Physics, Chemistry and Mathematic subjects in BITSAT and admitted to M.Sc. (Hons) programmes will be given an opportunity to work under the dual degree scheme for one of the B.E. (Hons.)/B.Pharm.(Hons.) programmes, assignment being made by competition on their performance at BITS at the end of first year, separately in Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad campuses. Students who have taken Mathematics in BITSAT will be considered under “First Priority” category for allotment of dual degree. Students who have taken Biology in BITSAT will be required to take additional remedial Mathematics course and they will be able to apply for dual degree only under the “Other priorities” category which is operated after satisfying the known needs of “First Priority” category.

(b) The Institute’s well known PRACTICE SCHOOL option is available to all students admitted.

ADMISSION NOTICE
The Institute invites applications for admission to one year M. Phil. Programme of study in Social Sciences with core papers in Research Methodology and Dr. Ambedkar’s Thought and Contemporary Socioeconomic Issues of Indian Society; and any two optional papers from : Life and Philosophy of Dr. Ambedkar; The Development of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes; Rural Development and Panchayat Raj; Women & Child Development; and Social Development and Justice. Besides, the candidate will be required to write a dissertation in one of the related topics, to be decided by the Institute.

SEATS & RESERVATION
Total seats are 47 (42 seats with fellowship and 5 seats without fellowship, to be filled in by sponsored candidates on merit basis). Reservation for SC, ST, OBC and girls will be as per M.P. Govt. rules. Hostel facility is available for both boys and girls, subject to availability of seats.

FELLOWSHIP & CONTINGENCY
For M.Phil., Rs. 1,500/- p.m. and contingency of Rs. 2,000/- per year.

ELIGIBILITY
A post-graduate degree in any subject from a recognized university under faculties of Social Sciences, Education, Law, Women & Child Development in the Faculty of Home Science, and Philosophy in the Faculty of Humanities, with a minimum of 50% for SC/ST and 55% for Others candidates. The candidates appearing for post-graduation final examination of 2008 can also apply. A candidate who has already done M. Phil. will not to be eligible. JRF awardees may directly apply for admission and need not appear for entrance test.

Desirous candidates may apply on plain paper, as per the proforma given below, along with a D.D. of Rs. 25/- for SC and ST candidates and Rs. 50/- in case of others in favour of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar National Institute of Social Sciences, payable at Mhow. CENTRAL POLICE FORCES (ASSISTANT COMMANDANTS) EXAMINATION, 2008

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS : A candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree of a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section-3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 or posses an equivalent qualification.

AGE: A candidate must have attained the age of 20 years and must not have attained the age of 25 years on 1st August, 2008 , i.e. he/she must have been born not earlier than 2nd August, 1983 and not later than 1st August, 1988 .

APPLICATION FORM: Candidates must apply in the Common Application Form devised by the Commission for its examination, which can be purchased from the designated Head Post Offices/Post Offices (specified in Appendix-III of the Notice) throughout the country against cash payment of Rs. 20/- (Rupees Twenty only). Each such Form can be used once and only for one examination.

In case of any difficulty in obtaining Application Form from the designated HPO's/POs, the candidates should immediately contact the concerned Post Master or UPSC's "Form Supply Monitoring Cell " over Telephone No. 011-23389366/Fax No. 011-23387310.

FEE: Candidates residing in India seeking admission to examination must pay to the Commission a fee of Rs.100/- (Rupees One Hundred only) through a single Central Recruitment Fee Stamp. Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes are not required to pay any fee. No fee exemption is, however, available to OBC Candidates and they are required to pay the prescribed fee, in full.

The Central Recruitment Fee Stamp of requisite denomination (NOT postage stamps) may be obtained from the post office and affixed on the application form in the space provided therein. The stamp must be got cancelled from the issuing Post Office with the date stamp of the post office in such a manner that the impression of the cancellation mark partially overflows on the application form itself but within the space provided on the form. The impression of the cancellation mark should be clear and distinct to facilitate the identification of date and the Post Office of issue. Candidates residing abroad should deposit the prescribed fee in the office of India ’s High Commissioner, Ambassador or representative abroad as the case may be for credit to account head “051-Public Service Commission-Examination Fees” and attach the receipt with the application.

Candidates should note that the fee sent through Indian Postal Orders, Bank Draft, Money Order, Crossed Cheque, Currency notes, Treasury Challan, Postage Stamps etc. will not be accepted by the Commission and such applications will be treated as without fee and will be summarily rejected.
